IF you sold your other machine(s) to stick with the Racer....

what is the Racer doing or has done for you to unload your tried and true? What was the "eye opening" event (s) for you? Was it going to your favorite hunting hole only to find many wonderful items missed by your other detectors? Was it the precision of pulling the goods out of infested iron hunting grounds? The ease of distinguishing good signals from the bad? There is a threshold if you will before some are willing to part out their flock of machines. The Racer is obviously doing something pretty darn good. I am curious and would like to hear your comments on the performance and abilities of the Racer.

when 'organizing' my personal detector arsenal, and it is very basic:

I know the types of sites I prefer to search. I know the types and amounts of challenging trash I have to deal with and the ground mineral make-up. I know what types of targets I am after, and the challenges I face that cause good-target masking that I nave to be able to deal with.

Then, taking what I know about what I face, I can easily sort out the models I need and the search coils available for them. The detectors must be relatively 'Simple' and lack a lot of excessive tweaking and adjusting and other time consuming maneuvers. The detectors must be 'Functional' such that the features they have and controllability all work, and work well. And 3[sup]rd[/sup], they must provide ample 'Performance' for the challenges I will face and have the ability to provide worthy 'iffy' to 'good' responses under challenging conditions. Finally, they must be comfortable and well balanced. Naturally, they are not worth much if they do not have a proper set of search coils for what I want and need.

If or when I come across a detector and coil set-up that fits the 'Simple' and 'Functional' and 'Performance' trio of categories, and the overall package is a better 'fit' for me and my needs, and matches or excels in performance over what I currently own and use, then it is time to make the move to upgrade my personal arsenal and thin out the detectors that will not be used or would be used very, very rarely.

I got an original Racer prototype in February of last year and it gave me close performance to my Nokta FORS CoRe. The FORS CoRe zi got the month before, and it excelled in all three areas of consideration and the improved performance over the models I had and used at the time (A Teknetics Omega 8000 and G2 and the White's MXT All-Pro and MX5 and a few more) were all bumped to 2[sup]nd[/sup] or back-up status as the CoRe became my #1 all-purpose detector.

Then the Racer's performance at the challenging places I love to hunt, pushed everything out of the very close #2 position and I started thinning them out.

A solid, durable design that was 'simple,' 'functional' and provided great performance wherever I took it.

Yes, that was part of it, but that was after my initial out-of-the-box assembly and working it on several test scenarios where it was quite impressive.

Yes, excelling over most of my other detectors.

Yes, it can provide that performance, especially if you listen to and learn the audio behavior.

The racer is an excellent detector for most people who will give it a try.

This year started out with some changes that appeal to me in the form of Iron Audio Volume, Tone Break and an expanded non-ferrous TID range with the Racer 2 that also has a more comfortable grip angle for me, and the Racer 2 is my main-use Makro detector.

The Racer 2 joins my favorite detectors that travel with me, my Nokta FORS CoRe, a couple of FORS Relics and a Tesoro Silver Sabre microMAX. All of these models can do what I want and need at various sites I hunt, especially through the winter months when I do more Coin Hunting and am limited on Relic Hunting access. I do have my 'special-use' FORS Gold + and Makro Gold Racer at home and ready for travel as needed. The Racer 2 is usually my 'go-to' detector for Coin Hunting tasks.

Wow! Thank you Monte for responding! Just the information I was looking for. - Jim

I sold my f70 after i got the red racer. I found so many coins I missed, probably due to the racer handling my bad ground better, and the " open gate audio" on the racer making a big difference. The f70 was no slouch!

That is quite the statement Bugg. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Racer.

I've had pretty much the best of the best. CTX 3030, V3i, Deus, F75LTD E-Trac. You name it and I've probably tried it. I own two detectors now my Makro Racer 2 and my old DFX I used in the event I need a backup. I owned the first Racer and it was good but in my soil nothing special other than fast. My Deus was fast. what I didn't care for was the lack of stability in my soil. Same reason I didn't care for the F75. I come from a background of very stable machines. Although they may not have been depth devils, they were very stable and that made them very pleasurable to use. The Racer 2 can get that same stability and still be sensitive and go deep.

A good example would be my hunt just last night. A quick jaunt out to a tot lot we, our local bunch, has hunted for years. Very cold so my plan was just to add something to my pouch and head home In an area we all have hunted many many times with every imaginable detector I get this nice clear and clean high tone. I hunt in 3 tone. No target ID but a very loud and clear high tone of a coin. I dug through at least 7" of mulch and a few inches of mud to find a clad quarter. I was very happy but not that surprised because I've had the Racer 2 do that several times before. I check my hole only to get another high tone and turned out to be a clad dime. I just shook my head and continued on.

Soon I got another tone but it was the lower range which I really look for. Again no numbers but a clear tone. About the same depth as the other two coins I pulled an old button. Now neither of these finds were worthy of posting but what is note worthy is that location they were found. These were not out of the way corners or such easy to miss spots, but in main areas that would have been any knowledgeable hunters first spots to hit. They screamed hunt me. Yet in all this time no other hunter had found these three obvious good targets. That is why I am down to the Racer 2 as my only main detector.

Here is the hunts take. Like I said nothing special other than the fact it was all missed by some very expensive machines swung by very experienced detectorists, including myself, and they all should have been easy targets for anyone to have found. But it took a special machine to pull them out.

It also helps that it was my Racer 2 that pulled my first capped coin after 40+ years of hunting an old fort site.

I had an AT Pro and Deus previously. Liked them both a lot. Recently got a red Racer.

Tried out the racer at a hunted out site where in a full days hunting with the Deus I found 1 button. The efforts with the AT pro there netted me very little there as well. That was using the 11" coils on each. The Racer with 5" coil is amazing... same site, same time devoted netted me a dozen buttons, a 2 cent piece and a half reale. Some of these cuff buttons were 7-8" deep. It's just crazy how good it is. Going slowly its like signals just appear oit of nowhete. I wouldn't trade this machine for anything.
