Here is the answer to the coil bouyancy problem. It's called a "Ballast Ring" and can be made for less than $5 with material from any hardware or home improvement store. The prototype worked well in rough surf. Please post your fileld test reports. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to P.M. me. Thanks.

Where to buty this tube ands plug?

I`d fill with sand. And use velcro strips, to attach, and to remove for dry sand.
 
Any hardware or home improvement store will have the supplies. I like the idea of the velcro and may try that on the next prototype. I used zip ties because I used epoxy on the bottom of the coil and don't use a coil cover. Good luck!

I was thinking that also. You will need some longer zip ties. However, keep in mind that this is designed to work on the Super 12 style coil. Play around with it until you come up with something that works. Good Luck!
 
I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on this one.

Coil buoyancy is dictated by the average density of the coil as compared to the density of the water. Adding a water filled tube to the coil is not going to make it more neutrally buoyant. As a matter of fact, freshwater is less dense than saltwater, so it would actually be a tad more buoyant than before.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Can someone please explain how this could possibly help with a coil buoyancy problem?
 
I welcome your feedback and encourage you to build one and try it for yourself, then post your opinion and your results. All I can tell you is that it works. I am developing another prototype based on input I have recieved from others. Hopefully after this weather clears up a little and the seas calm down I can post a video illustrating my tests in the field. Good Luck!
 
and pick some things to try. I'll know within 10 sec. cause right now my BHID floats like a cork, upside down cause of the straight rod the handle goes down and the control box and coil come up. TKS for the idea.
