If you could only use one detector for land hunting what would it be????????

Excuse me, I have too much time on hand at work today.I would flip a coin between a Fisher CZ5 & 1236x.

Think abou what most of your hunting will be, then find out the capabilities of each detector (including different coils) and see which one best suits your needs.
1500 350 250

But if I could only use one, it would probably be Tesoro's Golden MicroMax with a manual ground balance modification.

I'm going to spend a year with a DFX but the Golden is just a special little machine.

Ask the question this time next year and it will be interesting to see if the answers are different.

Mike, I think when it gets right down to serious hunting the users adaptability to their detector out weighs a slight performance edge over a better unit.Thats why we get my dad can beat up your dad syn drums.

Some have excellent ID, some are deeper, some handle trash better, some are lighter, some are user friendly, some are coin detectors, some are better for jewelry, some excell for gold nuggets..Just don't think there is a right or wrong answer except what works for you in your area and certainly a lot to choose from....Ask five excellent detectorists and might get five different answers..Most diehard detectroists have several to handle all conditions as I don't think one can do it all////

I really like my CZ.

I really like my MXT.

I really like my Sovereign.

If I could use only one detector for land hunting, it might just be the X-Terra 70. The reason being the ability to use different frequency coils for specific hunting tasks.

I wouldn't want to give any of them up though because they are the tools of the trade. I wouldn't use a hammer when I need a saw anymore than I would use a screwdriver when I need a wrench.

Let's face it, most units available today will find what we seek. The key is learning how to use that unit, and to do the research necessary to put them in the right places to find those items.

Good hunting,
OldeTymer

Do you think only a year is enough time to learn the DFX Mike? I have had mine almost six years and I'm still learning.............

hands down the best land hunting machine , we all have are own opinion (to each his own as they say) , the sovereign does it all for me .....I cant see any benifits from another machine, I'll try another but always find the sov. to be the strongest...

I've owned two Sovereigns and they do have their strong points.Just don't try to kick sand in their face at the beach,or your in trouble if you own another detector.

If money was not an issue, Explorer. If money was an issue Cz, tejon, or T2. A detector is only as good as the person swinging it so take my opinions with a grain of salt. R.L.

In the areas I hunt. The T-2 and the Explorers also are great, but for over all ID and easy to use the Sovereign would be my choice too.

you must be some kind of rabble rouser for asking such an open ended question...there is no such animal...but if one must be named ill pick the Bounty Hunter...the machine of the future....Too much time on your hands? must be a government worker.....Justttttttttttt kidddddddding!! Merry Christmas.

Detector Man,I've owned about 60 detectors, and yes there is no perfect metal detector. The question is if you have to use only one unit what would you choose. No I'm not a government worker, the construction workers are behind and we can't move parts into the plant. We build the new Silverado Pickup trucks, and I work in the logistics end.By the way I have a old Discovery 111,that is probably as good or better than the 3300 series.

I am sorry if i offended anyone. Did not mean to offend anyone but my first choice reply should have been that its not about the machine but rather about the person pushing the detector....the machine is not as important as the person behind it knows how to use it properly and to its full potential. Im still learning my XLT and talk to it frequently:please:...

Detector Man I'm not offended at all,Government workers heck most of them are under worked and over paid.I've bought and sold a lot of detectors probably too many.I took your comment as a joke.I'm off work for a couple of weeks the last few days with the construction work behind we are dead in the water.

It all depends on your hunting style. The cz5 (i've used mine for ten years-but it's not my favorite.) If you prefer to hunt slow and methodical the cz is fine(it does love rusty nails though). If you prefer to cover ground to find the hot spots get something else. As for the 1236x2 I've no expierience with it so have no opinion on it.
