If you could only have one X-Terra 70 coil, which one would it be?

I'm new to this forum and have had my X-Terra 70 for about a month now. I have the stock coil as well as the 10"*5" 18.75 khz coil. I haven't really done very well with the 18.75 as it cannot even pick up a quarter that I buried 4" below...I know it's better for gold than silver, but still I was disappointed by that. I've had way more finds with the stock coil so far, but I'm looking to move up to another coil, something that can find the deep coins.

Just curious as to what people's favorite coil is.

Something is severely wrong with a quarter at 4 inches unless you are in some extremely bad soil conditions. An average with say sensitivity at 25 would be 9 inches or so depending on soil. Find some clear ground and use the 9 inch MF standard coil to measure the ground.

In that same area where I couldn't find the quarter 4" below, I noticed that I couldn't do anything in All Metal mode because I was getting beeps constantly, even with a sensitivity of 16. Would this count as bad soil?

Possibly Alot of iron are you getting a VDI number is it falsing or beeping? I had this problem not to long ago as am a newbie too. I suggest reading all the FAQ'S thata are in this forum they really improved my finds. Let me know what the machine is doing also are you using the Elliptical 10X5? I would start with the stock coil learn the GB noise cancel and go back through the manual and faq's again and again. I could'nt find anything over 4'S now for example, I found a 1923 Wheatie surrounded by 4 nails all within 4"s one was directly on top of the coin and even with my 6" DD I pulled it out at 5'S. Something new that has worked for me as far as depth as well is to listen for the faint sounds even choppy signals with no VDI as these coins could be deep or coins on edge. ( remove a little of the top layer of dirt thencheck again) I live ain a Very high mineralized area so I feel the pain! Hope I can help, Grant

You may have an interference issue which can be discovered by holding the coil out at waist level away from your body parallel to the ground. If you are getting beeping at that position go into the menu, choose Noise Cancel, push the Auto button and hold the coil as previously described above the ground. Wait for the Auto Noise Cancel to finish via a solid tone you will hear. Listen to see if the beeping has stopped. If not, make sure you have no other electronics operating on you(cell phone, beeper, etc) and began walking away from the area at a slow pace holding the coil up. See if at a particular spot the random beeping stops. Now do your coin test in that spot after GB'ing the machine.

You may also be over some deep large iron or buried utilities. You can also do an air test just to confirm the detector/coil is working properly.
