If you could only have 1 small coil for your mxt....

which one would you buy? Anyone who's used both the small DD shooter coil and the 5.3 eclipse, please let me know your thoughts. Thanks. Bob.

The 4x6 DD without a doubt. Both get about the same depth except in mineralized ground the 4x6 will have an edge over the 5.3 coil. Since the 4x6 sees less ground and is narrower it will do a little better around trash. Just my opinion after owning both and keeping the 4x6. Hope this helps in your decision.

I have the 4.5X7 Excelerator. I love it. Use it on the M6 and they have very similar circuitry. It separates better than anything I have ever used. I have also dug coins in tha same whole with trash. That's getting a good signal. Not trash signal.

In mild ground the 5.3 has a very SLIGHT depth advantage, but in mineralized ground the 6x4 outshines the 5.3. The 6x4 isolates targets a bit better, and covers a bit more ground per sweep. Having used both, I overwhelmingly prefer the 6x4. HH jim

When I started using my 4x6 my finds nearly doubled. I would not be without it. HH Dennis in Idaho

I use the 5.3" Eclipse (quite often), 4x6" DD (sometimes), the 6x9" DD (most always), 5" Excelerator DD coil (sometimes), and the 8X14" DD (very rarely) and the standard 9.5" (when it starts feeling left out), mostly for open, non-trashy areas. The coil that I most always keep in place is the 6x9" DD coil.
If I had to choose only one "small" coil and the ground averaged "good", the 5.3" Eclipse would be the choice. But as Jim mentioned, if the gound is mineralized and or gets trashy to the point that a small DD coil is needed, the 4x6" would be very nice to have along.
JMO, for the ground I usually seem to work.

I appreciate the help. I got some email from people I've dealt with that really liked the excellerator small coil too. Looks like a decision between that and the 4x6 DD. Thanks again for the quick replies. HH. Bob.

I agree with you Jim. I had both the 5.3 and the 4X6 and here in the Ca Bay area, I could get the same effective depth with the 4X6 'cause I could run the MXT hotter with it and still have a stable threshold. As a plus, I could get a lot closer to the chain link fences with the 4X6 than with the 5.3.

It all depends on the amount and type of trash and what depths you expect to find stuff at and if you are after coins primarily. For totally trashed out areas where you have to sweep extrememly slow with low disc I would recommend the DD shooter.. depth is not important in that case. If you hunt older sites and need to get down to coins in the 5-6" range co-located with iron then I recommend the 5.3. My experience with the small DD coil is that it will not give good as good a response as the 6.5" concentric on copper/silver coins in that scenerio.
