If You Can't Find Them, Make Them :) .....Rings That is

WTG John. They look great. Could you expand a little on how you turn the silveware into rings? I found a ton of it this last year and it is just laying around in boxes. Thanks, Jackinaustin.

John,
Have you ever found any silverware marked "UNION SILVER CO.? If so can you tell me something about the company?

those are nice rings you made John. We need step by step directions:clapping:

When we were kids, I made lots of rings. Take a silver half or quarter, hold it on edge on flat steel, lightly tap with a hammer as you rotate it. When rim reaches desired width, smooth and round over with a spoon. Then drill out center. After a lot of filing and sanding with emory cloth (and a lot of blisters) you have a very nice silver ring.

John-Excuse me for butting in, but after seeing you last picture it looks like you are doing pretty much the same as I described.

Wasn't trying to take credit. Guess my comment didn't come across as intended. I meant it as a compliment. I see my your pics you have much more detail than I ever thought of having. Especially by leaving some of the coin "print" on the inside. I ever thought of that. Sorry if I sounded like a know-it-all.

I have also made many rings with the spoon tapping method also. They look fantastic with a nice silver finish on the outside.

It's nice to talk to someone else who has ventured into ring making. I think the original coinring makers were people going overseas to war, where they made a ring for their sweetheart from silver coins or guys in prison with too much time on there hands.

...it got a great price on ebay - - - - only kidding! I love it and I really like the shotshell base idea.

My granddad showed me how to make them back in the late 50's. He was an "old timie" blacksmith that worked hard all his life to make a living. He was one of those people that could make just about any thing out of metal. You normally think of blacksmiths being large burly men. In fact he was a small wirie guy about 5'4" and weighed about 140 lbs. Boy could we swing that hammer.
Nice talking to you..........Al

How do you make the shotgun shell ring?
