You need to get Tom Dankowski's DVD "Metal Detecting Real World Techniques Beach and Swimming Hole Hunting."

It is worth every penny. The segment on detecting micro-gold was especially revealing.

Certainly good reading material.....however in our area water hunting has caught on and certainly not the gold to find anymore....

Dan, one thing on my "back burner" so to speak is to research old baptismal spots in area lakes and rivers. My dad was raised in the mtns of SW Virginia, in an area where there wasn't an abundance of big lakes or ponds for churches to baptize people.

They basically used a pool in a stream that was barely 20 feet across, and I'd bet no more than four ft. deep at the most. His church used that same hole for sixty or seventy years.

I doubt anyone has ever detected it.

Sometimes they were in very close proximity of the bodies of water used to swim and baptize. Those picnic groves are treasure troves.

I read a story years ago in a Treasure magazine about a detectorist who had spent years trying to find an old Church Campground. It dated to the late 1700's.

When he finally found it, he said he found an example of just about every US coin minted from the 1850's on back, including a lot of foreign coins that were legal tender back then.

In my area, a lot of the old Methodist and Presbyterian Churches had Campgrounds, some dating back to the 1790's.
