If you are using the Pistol Probe with the E-trac

Steve from Ohio

New member
and want the Pistol Probe not to interfere with the E-trac, then just do this.

I noise cancel and while doing that, I hold the Pistol Probe's button down while the E-trac does its thing.

You will hear the Pistol Probe sputter and stop while the E-trac goes through the channels finding the frequencies that are open.

I always turn on the Pistol Probe when noise canceling and it keeps the E-trac tuned out of the Pistol Probe's noise.

It works every time.

And now for my rant.

I hear a lot of people saying " I don't like it because it looks like a gun."

Since when is it illegal to open carry a gun?

Ever hear of the second amendment?

It is legal to open carry a gun everywhere in the US. No permit is needed from the government. And for crying out loud, it isn't a gun anyway!

Get some guts. Stand up for your rights. And stop being so afraid about what others will think.

Thanks for the info Steve I have been using the pistol probe for the last couple of hunts. My X-1 took a dump and sounds like theres a nickle stuck to it. I find my self digging allot smaller holes with the PP but I sure like my X-1. I will try to nosie cancel and keep the probe on at the same time HHR

Good tip.

About having the right to carry a gun, well sometimes it's better not to push your rights as there are others who couldn't care less about what rights you have, including those with guns and badges whose guns are of the real sort. Try telling it to a judge and see how far you get with that argument after the cop has his say. I can tell you from personal experience that is a battle you will lose, but you are always free to fight it. If moral victories count, well then I guess it's worth something. Otherwise, I'd lay low as the less attention we attract probably the better off we are. All we need is word getting around we are a bunch of rednecks carrying weapons onto the sites we detect and we'll see ordinances further diminishing what rights we have left. I agree with you in principle but I really wouldn't want them thinking it's a weapon. And I believe as well, in this area there are laws that do NOT permit you to bring weapons onto say the property of a school. Not sure, but I believe I've seen the signs posted. It may be local.

Again I do realize this is not a gun, I'm just saying we don't need any black eyes, it will be hard enough to keep our hobby alive as it is. I agree with you in principle, but reality is a trickier situation.

Steve,

First, good tip on the Pistol Probe. It's a good unit & that is a very handy way to avoid cross talk.

Second, with all due respect, the issue about the Pistol Probe looking like a gun is a valid one. There was no need to get on a soapbox about guts & rights & 2nd Amendment & all of that baloney. No one disputes that & no one is arguing any of those points. I'm from Ohio originally myself & the parks I used to hunt back home wouldn't have presented any problem in terms of using a Pistol Probe. However, in some of the public parks here in Los Angeles, if you have a Pistol Probe on your belt you are asking for trouble. Think about this: you are carrying a black pistol-shaped object on your belt that ISN'T gun. Good luck with that.

The best solution I have heard is some guys are painting theirs orange and this working well for them.

Just my thoughts.

Bill

Anyone remember the old Wizard Vibra probe? I had one of the old black ones, before they were changed to a yellow molded plastic. One day while I was out detecting a park I was surprised by two police with guns drawn. They got a call from a person that I was carrying a gun in the park. They suggested that I paint it a bright color, which I promptly did that evening. I don't know about Ohio but here in NJ, if you have a pistol strapped to your side you had better have a permit to carry or be a cop on duty, and nothing else.

And Yes i totally agree with Steve and do carry 85% of the time I am out detecting. I am not worried about the police i know may of them in my town and they know I
Carry. We have to stand up for our right to carry If we do not we want have the right for long. People it is time to quite being sheep and stand up to any one that would try to take
that right from us. To say some one who carries a gun is just a red neck is mindless and i hope you never need to protect yourself or your loved ones from some one more evil than us rednecks
or maybe if you are lucky a redneck will be there to protect you.

Thomas Jefferson: "A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Ted Nugent: "To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic."

better be careful with this.......maybe some will soon start painting there had guns a bright color.......just to fool us all into believing they're pinpointers ""
Maybe it's time to make electronic metal detecting pinponters look less threatening like a flower stem, banana or even a long bread roll. Though, weren't a banana or bread roll used in armed hold ups in recent years? hmmmm .......................................oops......where's my coffee?

I hear you about our rights but, you can't carry anything that looks like a gun in NYC.

I absolutely agree with what you are saying. But our illegitimate government that is sold to the highest bidder wouldn't. They tend to fine and/or lock up those who take that stuff too literally. Not to get into a political discussion or anything but what did we expect when they started using 9/11 as an excuse to get rid out of civil rights and start spying on us and so on? Frankly I'm a hell of a lot more afraid of this government than I am of bin Ladin and his merry band - bin Ladin and the boys really can't touch me but this government won't hesitate to ruin my life. We think of tanks rolling over students in Tianammen Square, but I still haven't forgotten Kent State, and I have no doubt they'd roll over my body too if I pushed too hard for the rights we supposedly have.

Anyway if you can do it great I'm with you. I just wouldn't push it with these clowns now that we know they torture and have taken away many of the rights we had. And I definitely would not suggest carrying a weapon onto a school grounds here unless jail sounds appealing. Not sure about your area but I'm pretty sure here that is a no-no. Just an FYI (I live in Wisconsin).

Yeah I agree, I don't know why we even have to have them looking like guns. For that matter, some of us use knives to extract targets - very big, sharp knives that could also be considered wearpons. In fact even a Lesche digger could be used as a weapon (which is something to keep in mind if you go into some run down area, though I wouldn't go into those period, some of those guys will just shoot you and no one will see a thing).

Just best to be smart no matter what your rights may or may not be. Walking around carrying a weapon, you might as well drive past a cop giving him the finger at double the speed limit, it's just asking to get messed with, and life is hard enough without adding to the drama needlessly.

Gotcha
I would not want any one to know I was carrying that would be asking for trouble. If you do it right no one should know it is there unless you need it.
And unless things get real ruff you should not need it. I am with you I do not have a lot of faith in what is going on with our goverment now either.

Here in my area of TN a lot of folks carry just the way it is. Not many crimes here I think for this reason.

Well back to detector talk just get a bit fired up when this subject is brought up.

Keep your powder dry

National PistolProbe Association:rofl: I have to admit though, until I read this post, I did not know it was legal to carry a gun without a permit. Many of our rights disappear because many don't know they even have them, so they don't bother to fight for them. So as long as the gun is not concealed...You can carry one legally without a permit???

Ah!

NYC.

The communist capitol of the world. I've been there and it is a great city. Nice place to visit. Just would not want to live anywhere near it with all the communists that live there. I am beginning to think that many people who live in the city deserve everything they get. Crime, pollution and everyone telling you what you can or cannot do. Gun laws are used to prevent people from being able to defend themselves against criminals weather on the street or the ones elected. Remember GUN CONTROL is really PEOPLE CONTROL.

Government has killed more people in the world than any other. And any government that sets you up to be killed will always take away your guns.

If George Washington was alive today, he would declare war on Washington and NYC.

That will be it on my comments on guns. I would rather talk about metal detecting anyway.

I'll be taking my bunny probe from now on so I won't get killed by the police who are there to protect me or so they say.
