If weight weren't an issue, 8" mono, or stock 10" X 14" DD in highly mineralized red dirt?

I have done very well with the 8" mono but wondering if I can get more depth with the DD? I'm relic hunting and looking for the deep stuff. (10" +)

The 8 inch mono gives good depth to around the 10 inch mark on small items like coins and nuggets up to about 5 or 6 gms and it handles high mineralisation very well.
The 10 x 14 DD will be better in high mineralisation and will have similar depth performance as the 8 inch on small items like buttons, musket balls and coins down to around 8 inches.
but the big coils depth advantage and ground coverage comes in on the larger targets and becomes progressively greater as the target size increases.

The 10 x 14 mono is a very sensitive coil that can handle very high mineralisation and for depth I would rate this coil slightly better than the DD in most ground conditions short of extreme iron mineralisation.
If you already have the DD and it is working well in your ground conditions then stay with it for a while.

I cannot say which of the big coils would be better for you because I have no way of realy knowing what your ground conditions are like other than to say that if you are likely to encounter extreme iron mineralisation often then I would suggest the big DD might be the wisest way to go for more depth on medium to large targets and better ground coverage.

Am not sure if any of this makes sense because I am finding it more and more difficult to put together answers that say what I mean; Must be getting old .:stretcher:

If your hunting Civil War Relics then you are familiar with the red dirt...my favorite coil for this is the 10x14 mono. It will handle most that I have thrown at in in Relic hunts. It is very light weight compared to the stocker. Found some great CW items with it, and very small items to boot, like boot tacks, percussion caps at 6 inches, etc...

I think I will have to try that one out come this fall. I do very well with the 8" mono but against the TDI with the 12" I feel they have an advantage immediately because there covering more ground.
