If Garrett had left the frequency of the ATP in the Max or could retro-fit it back in to the machine What a Winner that would be. Can't fault that 15 to get the goodies.

Not understanding your post. Is it that the frequency the Atp has is what you like better? Or the frequencies of the Max, and why.

The frequency of the Pro runs at 15 and is great at hitting solid signals especially silver. If Garrett would have left that signal in the Max as well as the other two,all I can say is that it would have been a Winner.

I thought a lower signal below 15 is more sensitive to silver?...... I just wish they would have 4 tones including the bell tone on higher numbers and if possible multi tones on all metal.

You are right Russ, the Max is designed to be a little more "sensitive" to high conductors with a frequency of 13.6khz. Its not that much more sensitive but heading in the right direction towards silver. That is why Garrett can technically state they engineered the Max to be "more sensitive" towards silver. I believe the ideal frequency is 2.8khz (if my memory serves me correctly) for hitting silver. Of course any frequency can HIT silver, it is just known that lower for silver and higher for gold. I agree = Multi-tones in all-metal would have been sweet!

I'm just going to throw this out there. All my 16 years of experience has been hunting for clad/ jewelry. Mud wet, dry sand and wading. Honestly my results could be graded as , ok. The thing I believe is that there are no magic wands. I have blundered into some magical sites though. Wouldn't hardly matter what you were swinging. Loaded! The Guys that know (I have learned) for best results, try to match the machine to the site. So the Max like every other machine will have that niche. Example, Wouldn't hunt a true pulse induction for celler hunting.
Just saying.

Hi

I do not have any previous experience with the AT Pro - so no preconceived expectations.

I am getting along fine with the Max. It seems to pick up on deep coins just fine in the Zero Mode.
Also a bit of scratchy zips coming through at times- like the iron tone starts to grunt but the discrimination cuts it off a mini second too late.
I don't know how else to describe it.
I also noted last Saturday that after I performed the Ground Balance again and again - the zips seemed to stop.
