Went out and hit the wet sand today and found there was a few swingers in the cuts so i decided to walk way down the beach away from everyone, I'm sure glad i did after about an hour i found a crematory tag. I said a little pray and sent it out to the depths. as i was turning around i got a beep and dug the silver ring. the hair went up on my neck with a couple goose bumps. i looked out to the water and asked if i could find something better with gold, haha 20 minutes later i found this Rolex watch, The hair really stood up then chills even. I gave it a shake and the second hand started to move, and the watch had a lot of encrusting on the stainless and some on the crystal. A little work took most of it off. After talking to a friend on here that has some knowledge about these i sent him a few pictures and described and answered all the questions i could. He then said everything sounds like its the real deal but you still have to take it to the Jewelers just to make sure. If it is i think ill have it repaired, I always wanted one so now maybe i have one.......I'll post tomorrow if its real thanks for looking

Awesome find:surprised: all I found was copper wire and some weird clamps today

Take the back off of the watch and look at the movement. Also if it is battery operated it is a fake.

I hope its real. Rolex is never battery powered. Each watch has a serial number so that the original owner can be contacted. Back in 1959 I bought a new all stainless steel Rolex Oyster from a jewelry store for $69. Had to wind it every day, wore it for 7 years then sold it for the price I paid for it. Thought I did well with that selling price. Many years later a jeweler told me that watch is a collectors piece and is worth $2700 today. Problem with Rolex is it cost about $300 to have it cleaned and oiled every 3 or 4 years. If I had that watch today I wouldn't be wearing it, I like my battery powered watch better

Good luck on the Rolex!! That a sweet watch

Try to remove the crud yourself and get a leather band at Walmart, probably save yourself a few hundred dollars. If it isn't keeping good time then be ready to shell out the money for servicing. Rolex is a mainly a piece of jewelry and is much less accurate than modern battery powered quartz watches. Yours is not battery powered, so most likely is a real Rolex.

if it is actually working and the second hand sweeps versus "clicks" for each second - most likely it's real...before you take off the back yourself...
if it's not working try shaking it for about 10 minutes to see of the second hand starts moving again - if it does most likely it's real...

Not a bad day out huh? By the way....what time is it?? :)

One way to check if it's a real Rolex, besides it not having a battery is in the watch stem. One a genuine Rolex the stem unscrews to wind it and set the time. It doesn't just pull our like a regular watch. This is one of the features that keeps is waterproof. Once you pull the stem out to wind the watch (which isn't necessary if you wear it all the time) you will hear very fine gears turning as you wind. A last thing to look for if the watch is running is the second hand on a Rolex does not turn one second at a time, it's more like 5 clicks per second. Last, but not least, the case opens with a special tool on a Rolex. Instead of having 6 or 8 slotted groves on the back it has fine teeth that go around the back of the case for opening.

My first impression of your watch would be it's genuine. It's probably an number of years old as it's an oyster perpetual date where the newer ones would be a datejust.

Great find!

He saved the price of the watch!! I love it.

Usually, corrosion indocates a fake. I have seen fake beach Rolexs before and they always have corrosion. Exciting though!

Salt encrustion or corrosion is common on all non precious metal components. If you look a couple of posts up you will see a jeweler removed the back and said its authentic.
