The larger one in the middle is the one in question. There is a 20ga. and a 12ga. on the sides and it reads "WESTERN KILN GUN".
The next picture shows the size in inches. Is it an 8ga.? Thanks for veiwing and HH!!

i don't think i ever saw a shotgun shell that big, i've found ten guages, but nothing like that. the umc shells i think are pretty old. there's people out there who collect 'em too. i got a picture frame full. hh,

do a google search on kiln gun, hit i'm feeling lucky nad it takes you to the gun that fired it.

They use 8 and 10 gauges at the paper mills to help clean dried stuff off of boliers or something. Someone may have brought a hull home from work...d2

hey scott, i asked some co-workers about your shell. they had gone on a shutdown of a steel mill in wv last year and i vaguely remembered one of them mentioning a kiln gun. there's a large gun mounted to the floor near the main pot that is used to melt the steel in. they use the gun to fire at the kiln to loosen slag and other encrustations on the inside of it. so that might be it! hope it helps, and hh,
