got any fisher users out here at all? well just been hangin around in the fisher classic forum and of course you get these jokers from the digital forums bad mouthing our older units well they can take ther f-75 and t-2' s and shove em up there kiestas glorified bounty hunter anyway! sorry just fuming

Not much respect unless you put a White's sticker on it.....
I pop in here once and a while with an older analog unit other than a White's
just to show others what's really out there. I actually have a new site up with the older units.
Adding more to it every week http://treasurelinx.com/ to show
folks what they missed out on.

I like my Dtex units, picked up a rare RS200 with 3 coils with the optional factory hip mount conversion.
Doesn't have coin ID but it sure packs some depth in all metal mode.

A couple of the forums on here are getting ridiculous and I don't check in on them much anymore. The Garrett guys have turned that forum into the AT PRO forum for a detector that isn't even out yet. I call it the Speculation forum now. Many of the Fisher forum posters don't want to hear about anything but the Gold Bug SE/Pro or the F75/T2.. I have detectors from White's, Fisher, Tesoro, Bounty Hunter and Compass, so I don't claim to be loyal to any one brand. I use what works for ME for the type of detecting I do. Been at this for a little over 40 years, and I like to think that I've learned a little something about this hobby, and that's an aspect that many of the guys you're referring to have overlooked. This is a hobby and is supposed to be FUN!! When more, bigger, better, best becomes more important than enjoying a hobby, then it's time for them to take up knitting.

I just wanted to add that the Fisher 1200 series detectors are tremendous machines, all of them. The 1260 was a benchmark detector that changed the detecting world and the 1265/1266 have become a legend to relic hunters. The 1225, 1235, 1236, 1270 all have proven themselves as well. The 1200 Fishers have built a record and reputation that few others can even begin to match. They definately haved earned their rightful place in metal detecting history as among the best of all time.

well i would of thought so myself but people today have got this notion that modern is always better well i'm here to tell you thats not so at all! I find that i will find more stuff with a 2 knob job then a top of the line rig, maybe i'm just a simpleton but it works for me!

Brandon,
We'll have to get together next summer and do some detecting. I'm not to far from you. I have to have some surgery soon so this years about shot for me. I'll give ya a shout. Steve

steve that sounds great i've got a bunch of spots that i got permission for that i hav'nt even hit yet right around the oxford hills area!

[size=small]I got a 1260X when they first came out.
I liked the super slow speed which I could swing the coil
and the dual discriminators were helpful
when coin shooting. Some years later my buddy got a 1266
which made my 1260X seem like a kid's toy. That 1266
was a heck of a machine.

Hey amcjavelin, I have been a 1200 series Fisher fan for years. Started out about 1981 or so with a 1220x and found a ton of stuff with it. Moved on up to the 1260x when it came out (actually bought 2 new ones) then on to the 1265x when it came out, then finally to the 1266x. So yes I do have much respect for all of the 1200 series Fishers. They have found me thousands of coins, medals, and other interesting artifacts over the years. I have one medal I found in a small town city park with a 1260 with a depthmaster unit on it that I swear was dug almost to my elbow deep before I found it. It was a solid hit at that depth and I almost gave up on the target but it sounded so good I had to see what it was. I agree with you on finding more with a beep and dig detector, although I had a good day today with my cz5....3 mercs, a silver rosie, a walking liberty half, and a ladies sterling ring with a heart shaped stone. But normally a beep and dig produces better for me than a metered detector....and I think that I rely on the meter too much and pass up some good targets that I will dig with a beep and dig unit. I'd love to have a mint condition 1220x pro detector to hunt with. This was the hipmount only version of the 1220x fish hook handle detector I had. It had a freq. shift on it and would be a perfect yard hunting detector.....light and very deep. Never owned a 1270 yet but would like to try one sometime....always read they will detect a Chinaman's fillings....lol. Sounds like you have all the bases covered on coils for your 1270...very nice to have all those coils for any situation that might pop up. I have no interest in the F series Fisher detectors that are the rage these days. Cheap assed build quality at a cost that is about a 1000.00 overpriced in my opinion. You read of problems with the F series detectors and most of them boil down to quality control.....something the First Texican people know little about. Of all the Fisher 1200 series detectors I have bought over the years I have had exactly zero problems with any of them....nada, zilch, zip. They will still be going strong long after these new F series detectors are wore out. The 1200 series detectors are some of the best detectors ever made and I know plenty of other guys feel the same way. Happy Hunting and good luck with your 1270................Roger

roger ol boy i apreciate those words for sure, i think its me and shoooter now that just comment on any of the 1200 series stuff anymore and ocasional coinstrikers in there too, the rest is all about the gold bug Se that everybody whined about after getting them and had to send back but what ever to each there own i guess

Hey, I'm with you on that one! I have to agree 100%. I just sold off one of those 'modern and updated' machines that was supposed to be "all that" and more. Had all the accessory coils that were supposed to help me find every lost relic in the world.....yeah, right! What I found is exactly what you found.....that I find more stuff with my simple beep and dig machine than any of this new digital 'progressive' technology that's out there. I know guys are into gadgets and electronics, so I think that's part of the allure of all these new machines coming out....but c'mon...are they REALLY that much improved at finding stuff in the dirt???? Um, I don't think so.

So the 1200 series has been manufactured for 30 years now, shows to go you what a great machine it is.
I doubt no other manufacturer can attest to that!

I am a big fan of the beep and dig machines as well, but I am a sucker for the biggest and badest. I also have noticed that I think I am walking by some good stuff with the meter machines. My 1266-x is my latest machine of the ones I own, winter set in before I had a chance to try it out, but I kind of know what it will do I a 1265-x back in the 90's.

The Fisher 1255 first came out it was the undisputed king.
Fisher detectors were well respected (still are).

I like new technology ... take cars ... better brakes, longer lasting engines, but more plastic and almost disposable if crashed.
With detectors they have made some advancements in detecting depth but most improvements has been cosmetic and target ID improvements.
So many things have been tried with new detectors, most with marginal results, that the limit has just about been reached.
It is going to take some sort of breakthrough or new technology to make any real noticeable detection depth improvements.
I dont know if the ID (VID or Tone) systems can get any better ... they seemed to hit a wall years ago and improvements have been very slight since then.
No detector can really tell clad from silver or aluminum from gold ... NOT YET!
But that day might come ... or it might not.
A big part of the thrill of metal detecting is not knowing exactly what the target is.
If that were taken away and all the known spots were cherry picked clean with a new "super detector" would it be any fun anymore?
The thrill of the hunt makes it a lot like fishing.
If you could see every fish in the water around you would that be fun for very long?
If every deer had a locater on it and you knew exactly what and where it was, and you had a gun that never missed, would you still deer hunt?
The thrill and suspense of the hunt is what keeps our hobby alive.

I own a 1266-X, and I have a Hot-Head coil for it. Awesome combination. I started hunting in 1961 with a Radio Shack BFO, then bought a White's coin Master w/4DB coil, no meter, then went to Compass detectors, Yukon, Judge 1, Judge 2, Relic Magnum 7, CZ5, CZ6. Then switched to Fisher 1260-X, 1265-X, 1266-X , 1280-X aquanaut. Then switched to Minelab Explorer XS, Explorer XS II, Now am the pround owner of the E-trac. Still have and use the 1266-X...........NGE

I had a 1265 some years ago,and still have a (Pre los banos)1236x2 that is a coin magnet in the trashiest areas.
the f series look like they were built using BH coils.
Id like to try the 1270 and the cz3d but those are probly the last fishers I would consider buying.
