IDX Pro question.

There are times when I do like to use Tone ID, but for most of the sites I hunt what I want more than Tone ID is terrific iron rejection in a slow sweep detector (IDX Pro) or similar great audio 'bark' in a moderate to fast sweep model for open areas (6000 Pro XL/XL Pro).

I've had a 6000 with the Tone ID mode that was originally done by Mr. Bill Lahr, and it worked well .... but I found I prefer a strong single-tone audio most of the time. The only modifications I like on the IDX Pro are those done by 'Mr. Bill' Crabtree at Surfscanner Detectors.

All good points Monte, thank you. I just thought that the IDX and tone id seemed like a good fit. I hunt with no discrimination most of the time and figured using the IDX in this fashion would enhance it"s separation abilities and depth.

Only if the tone ID was as accurate and matched the IDX Pros's meter at depth. I usually don't care for tone ID but a separate two tone system set up to work with your disc setting similar to the Gold Mountain King Cobra would work for me. Just flip a switch and any thing below your disc. setting would give a low tone and every thing above the setting giving a high tone. I have pretty nasty ground up here and I usually hunt using the blacksand expanded disc. setting using zero discrimination. I get excellent depth this way but my neck gets sore looking at the meter when hunting trashy or iron infested sites.

The only reason I asked was because I saw a XL Pro with tone id on an auction site. They said it was one of very few made. I thought that maybe there were a few IDXs with tone id floating around. If it was a simple mod., somebody would be doing it by now.

I don't think i would want to hear all those tones. Its good enough to hear a solid and a broken tone on targets.I understand that some people try to identify targets by their tone . All target tones are only probable ids no guarantee of accuracy. Its like that new Spectra Vision video when the gold nugget was air tested the machine turned into a music box and visual readings were not stable. I ll stick with one tone good or broken. Plus i like the old standard tone its easy on the ears.

 Thank you Kurt B for this post. It proves my point precisely (see my post " Why was the Vision produced?" in the Vision forum). Detectorists have been asking Whites for a LONG time to make a new IDX Pro with tone ID, depth gauge, and backlight. They either don't care or they just don't realize the demand. Thanks again, RDF

Tone Id could be another area in the hobby that White's could expand on and improve. I would like to see a Classic 3 type of non-metered detector with advanced tone ID. Like differend wave patterns for like seven segments. Sort of like the different insterments on a keyboard in stead of the old VCO sound that gets annoying. Or maybe a rotary knob to select diffent types of tones for the beep. Like I want good targets to sound like a New Wave or something. Also a 15khz Classic type detector. I use the IDX pro and have a mod to turn down the audio frequency really Low. A good response on a deep target is much more pronounced. A iron target that is partially blocked out sticks out like sore thumb.
