IDX Pro in iron trash

I was wondering if Monte,Jackpine Savage or others who have experience with the IDX Pro could share some tips on searching iron infested sites with that particular machine. One would use small coils of course and there are some generalized techniques but each machine is different.

There are four things to remember:

#1.. Use the lowest Discriminate setting you can. Just enough to reject surface nails is where I operate.

#2.. Make sure you use a slow and deliberate sweep. Do NOT sweep too fast, and do NOT sweep too jerky.

#3.. Opt for a smaller coil. The 6

Thanks for the tips Monte!I am already using small coils but I`ll try slowing my sweep down. The IDX Pro has such a fast response and recovery time that I didn`t think of that approach.I appreciate the advice.HH

Joe,

I'll only add one thing to Monte's excellent reply.

Do be careful of relying on TID readings in the highest segments. Large iron can sometimes read as half/$$ and this causes many people to ignore those readings after digging some of the big iron. When hunting in heavy iron where pinpointing is impossible due to targets in close proximity to each other, I do not attempt to "size" targets either. Instead, analyze the target from different directions and if you are able get a halfway consistent lower reading go for it. The detector is not always just reading large iron as high coin, many times it will be a high conductor near iron "pushing" the reading up to the highest TID segment.
