idx confusion on coils that I have !!!

gottit

New member
My current 5.3 / 7.8 coils ( will work on my classic III SL) will not work on my IDX SL( they go crazy ) works great with 9.5 coil . Using fully chg'd batteries suggestions or I'm I to use only a 9.5 coil. please help!!! gottit !!!

The Classic III & the IDX are the same circuit, one with a ID meter, one without. If the coil works on one & not the other, that one has a problem.

Also, check the Frequency Shift. Put it at the factory preset marker and check, also make any ground balance changes with the FS control at the factory preset. If the GB is set at one point and you shift the frequency, you can also shift the GB enough to cause problems. Ground Balance doesn't need to be made continually, but should be made (or checked) for proper function with any coil in use.

As Bill stated, the Classic III SL and IDX Pro are basically the same circuits so if you set the controls similar on each on, you'll have similar performance.

Mr bill this one was going to come to you ! I got it on ebay from az don't know if gb chg'd in that area ! should this go to service center will yoour work correct this?? Thx's for your help too monte ! gottit

If it was ground balanced in Arizona, it certainly would have had a affect on things. You can check the GB yourself. Do this next act over ground with no metal in it. Push the toggle switch forward, and lower the coil toward the ground. Does the threshold change ? Notice the change. Do the same with your other detector. They should sound similar in intensity. If not, that could be your answer.
