Hi everyone i just got this at pro and i have been playing with it in my yard.I noticed that the ID numbers are all over the place. Any suggestions
Thanks Joe

Hey Joe, Welcome!:clapping:

Set it up in Pro zero mode, push and hold the disc button and count to 10...it will then be at the max disc 40...turn iron audio off...set your sens about 3 clicks down from full power...

Lay out some various targets, and sweep over them to get to know the tones...that should get you going...i generally always hunt with this setting...

If its still jumpy, you may be near some power EMI or whatnot...you can ground balance too if you want...

Hi again, I tried your settings and it helped some but ID still jumps around some and different audio on same target but I found one good find.It was a Maryland state CW button. Only dug 3 singles,a small piece of aluminum and the third found nothing. A few years back I had a whites XLT and I went over my yard many times, what singles I get now are 7+". I plan to dig a lot more since it cooled down. My yard has a lot of mixed singles so I'm going to dig a bunch of them. If you have any suggestions please let me no
Thanks Joe

Ok, cool..I was wondering if you were really new at this or not...so thats good info about your level, and what you are hunting depth wise.. you've been doing this detecting thing for a while, so we dont have to start with the basics...

Yeah, I will say, on deep stuff, in some changing ground, I get all sorts of squirrelly signals on coins, TID wont lock and hold exactly like what you are experiencing...so I run Iron audio ON in those areas...and also I try to run a hotter sens...about one click down from full...then, I manipulate the coil over a target either wiggling it, or bouncing it, or a mixture of the two to try to get an idea of the size and depth....I think we need some other eyes and experience on this for you Joe...I hunt beaches and water with my Pro..that said, I have targets coming in all over the TID spectrum at depth, of course, its easy to dig in the sand, so I go by 'size' of the target more than anything.... .FORUM HELP!

Any dirt boys out there that can help Joe here??

Joe, first thing, check the coil wire connection and see that it is tightened nice and snug. Unless you have some extra ordinary heavy emi close by, the tid #'s shouldn't be all that jumpy. Typically the A T Pro has good tight tid.

Anyway, check that coil wire connection. If it is somewhat loose, the A T will go bonkers. Let us know. HH jim tn

Hi Jim, The coil is very tight. When I lay down coins in the yard and test the ID's are right on.I no the yard has a lot of trash in it because this house has been here since before the civil war. I would like to lock on to a target so i don't dig so much. The hard clay in my yard id down about 14".

Sounds like small coil territory. Although the 11" DD seems to have a small sweet spot, surrounding trash can make numbers jump and tough to pin point, as you know. Good luck! HH jim tn

One more question Jim, i just got a single that said 75 to 81 4' deep so I decided to dig. I dug a 6" dia. hole 8" deep and never found anything.I still get a single that is 4". This machine has me puzzled. Tried different modes still same thing.
Thanks Joe

Usually when this occurs there is something big that is very deep. When I say deep, I've dug big items, like a can, big piece of rusty iron, and so on, 10 to 15+" deep. My hunting buddy Chris had this happen last week with his A T. Nice 80 or so reading showing 6 or so inches. From 10" deep he recovered a partially folded/bent civil war spur. Big items will read shallower and you have to be the judge just how deep you are willing to dig and what the odds might be of it being a big pickle jar full of coins. HH jim tn

Hunt in Pro Mode....decrease your sensitivity, hunt in Pro Mode, crank up your iron audio to about 25, keep your volume at a moderate level and don't hunt near any houses, above or below ground electrical wires and relax. It takes time to learn the AT Pro. Try and dig all targets for a while, and notice how coins sound much more clearer then bottle caps.

Hi john, The town I live in Is in the mountains of WV and only about 700 people live here. The town was here during the civil war and there was some action here by McNeil's Rangers> There were large railroad round houses here then. There are no under ground electric lines here at all. The houses here are all old.
Thanks Joe

the quickest way to tell a deep good sounding target from a shallow good one is to raise coil about 10-12 inches & sweep it, if u still hear it it's deep & large. The pro mode audio usually more accurate than the vdi(although the vdi is usually rather good. Objects that sound quieter with no vdi are often deep good ones.

Hi and thanks to everyone for your help. I guess it was lucky I found the button the other day cause I just decided to dig it. Here is a scan of it and thanks again for your help.

The AT Pro is smack dead-on for new and old pulltabs. The corona caps ring all over the scale, but with iron audio on, they are easy to discriminate. I dig up all the pulltab signals, especially because a 18k gold ring popped up with a solid 63 (or maybe 61, can't remember...). I dig them up so the next year is ready for a new hunt without the old pulltabs. With the 61 or 63 signals, I also sway 90 degrees perpendicular to the first sway direction, just to see if it's a new single pulltab, or the old two piece type, which gives the double beep. The 1 and 2 euro coins and rifle cartridges give out 2 different signals each, so that also makes it easier to know what might be under before digging. I noticed the pinpointer is alot more delicate to use compared to the ACE 250. I have to play around with the pinpointer button a few times in order to get the thing working correctly, because if the MD is receiving signals, it won't switch to pinpointing. The ACE 250 easily starts up pinpointing.

In really trashy areas I turn the sensitivity way down , sometimes to just 2 points up from the bottom.....you will lose some depth but you usually wont get great depth anyway in trash infested ground. Going so low on the sensitivity helps a lot with masking and interference , focussing more on just what is under the coil and not whats around it. I also dont use iron audio , you hear the iron anyway so unless you need to check a "specific" item you are unsure of its basically pointless and just more sound to filter through as you search. I notch nothing out and use no discrimination , if you do you can miss "squeakers" or good items right up against trash or iron because the detector may filter it ALL out .....like the old saying " throw the baby out with the bath water".

I tried your settings and got a good single about two feet from where I found the button. I don't no if it is trash or not maybe someone can identify it for me? It is not steel a magnet won't stick to it.
Thanks Joe
