identifying unmarked jewelry ???

I found this "ring" earlier this morning at a beach. My F19 was giving me a solid 81-82 from all angles at six inches in the wet sand. Out came this thing. It appeared very dark (almost black) when I got it out but it came out shiny with a little bit of cleaning. I thought it was junk but I'm not sure. There are no markings. it's non magnetic. It's only about 3/4 of an inch in diameter and weighs 2.6 grams. ID in air is a solid 83 and my other detectors also show a high conductor reading in the high copper, low silver range and one single unwavering number.

I found a link to a very similar ring from a Canadian ring maker. I found a few European links with rings such as this as well. It gives me hope that it is silver.

Is there a way for me to know if it's silver without going to the jewelers ? Is there an acid test to be done on silver like there is on gold ? Any electronic devices ?

Thanks.

You can use silver testing acid but a pro gold buyer/seller told me professionals usually don't use that because results can be spotty.
What most of them do use, however is regular 18k gold testing acid...since then it is the only way I test for silver.
Do the scratch test and if silver the scratch should turn to a white/blue color.

It's silver! HH jim tn

:) I'm hoping it is. I really don't know what else could be in that range for such a small ring. It just came out slightly darker than expected. My silver coins tend to come out just a tad on the brighter side / whiter.

I think I'll take REVIER's advice and buy myself a gold testing acid kit.
