ideas to cover speaker on GT? :help:

I had cut out a little piece of thin cardboard and taped it over the speaker to keep out dust / dirt. Obviously the tape failed...any ideas of how to keep the speaker covered to keep out dust / dirt? I always keep my unit hip-mounted.

I taped a round leather circle over my musky to keep the volume down , and that really works great i can still hear it but its not blaring loud and no dust gets in , i even tape the seams of the battery box so no dust gets in thear i use electrical tape i used an old leather glove and cut out a round section then taped it over the speker

Interesting idea. :detecting:

Thanks for the ideas with blue painters tape and the leather glove.

If you don't need an external speaker and can afford it... I like goodmore's idea to purchase the internal Patrick 180 meter.

Ditto.

I use two inch blue painters masking tape and use a razor blade to cut around the speaker.

If you are going to use tape to hold something over it I would put the tape up and over the top and bottom of the control box so that it's easier to peal and clean off. You'd just need something like perhaps the plastic lid from a Pringles potato chip can to go over the speaker...or maybe the lid from a can of tennis balls or something that is just big enough to cover the speaker and then snug over the sides of it....If (can't remember and am not looking at one) the speaker is raised on the face of the control panel. It's raised, isn't it? I don't think it's flush. Better yet, if it is raised then how about using a couple of rubber bands to go all the way around the control box and snug the lid on there?

Actually,

I am using black eletrical tape and works pretty darn good! If that fails, the next step is to get some of the blue painters masking tape. So far so good.

I use tape that is made for sealing air conditioner ducts. It is metallic and water resistant,it will last out side in the weather for years. you should only need a few inches of the tape. Any air conditioner installer will should give you that much. Hope this helps.

One thing I would recommend is "Outerwears" brand covers. Although they dont make one for exactly what you are doing, I have used their products (and chopped them up) for years for various applications. Dirt and dust doesnt make it through and water beads off of it, the stuff is amazing. If you cut a piece of this material, you could put it over your speaker in many different ways (you could put stick on velcro around the speaker opening and velcro the outerwears directly over it and remove it when you want or want to wash it). It will allow fresh air to get in but keep everything else out. Once again, the brand is "outerwears." Just google it. The site is a little awkward but if your in this hobby I'm sure your used to that. You can order any cover from any application, so long as it's big enough and cut it down to size. Just a thought, hope it helps.
