Just had a few thoughts. When the AT Gold debuted, everybody, including yours truly, thought it was destined to be something like an AT Imaging, to replace the GTI series. I just had a little thought and would like to run it by all the md forums I can think of. What if Garrett made a version of their GTI series on the AT platform to replace the basic GTI, then renovated the GTI series to make a multi-frequency imaging detector in order to compete with the V3i and the E-Trac. They could call it the GTI+ or something. The 2500 could be the V3i or E-Trac. The 1500 could be the Vx3 or Minelab Explorer.
Here's my thought. They could modernize the look and knock several ounces off the weight. Do a little something to the screen layout to make it look like a modern top of the line detector. Set up the programming the same as the current GTI models, but give the option of a standard sound or a "pro" sound like on the AT Pro, just with the option of the sound on a different menu page. Increase depth, sensitivity, and general performance. Imagine depths around 10" without going into all metal mode!! They could have a something like 3 or 4 frequencies(or more). I was thinking like 2.5, 7.2, 15 and 25 or something along those lines. Waterproofing would be a plus! Not to mention the new ground balancing on the AT Gold, if it works better.
What I'm getting at is, Garrett has a host of great technologies under their belt. If they were to put it in a solid multi-freq. detector, they could have something that could blow the competition away. Sure it will cost more than a current GTI 2500, but, with the possibilities, it would be more than worth it. Imagine a detector that can compete with a V3i and E-Trac but at a price closer to the Vx3. How many people do you know would love such a thing?
Well, these are just my thoughts. Let me know what you think, and, if you know someone at Garrett, feel free to forward these ideas, even though they've probably got something great up their sleeves already!
