Ideal setup for MXT to hunt relics?

What coils have been most useful in hunting for relics in open fields, woods, and around house foundations? Do you have a preferred brand for headphones?

I don't do any relic hunting. So I can't help you there.

Headphones? SunRay Pro Gold all the way. I've heard more targets with these phones. More so than when I used an older pair of Grey Ghosts. I just told Larry how much I like my SunRay Gold headphones. I wouldn't part with them. Even in this heat, the leather ear covers aren't all that hot. They are very comfortable and has the audio limiter so your ears don't get blown off your head with a large target.

In open fields I use 12" accelerator coil in relic mode with zero disc.gain set at about 1 1/2(depends on ground)and triggers pushed forward. In the woods I use the same set up,but with the 6X10 DD coil.
Koss Pro headphones.

You might want to look into the Excelerator 10x14 DD searchcoil along with Detector Pro Accusound headphones. The 10x14 goes deep and the headphones are what you would expect from a top of the line headphones. HH Dennis in Idaho

I use a 14" Excellerator in open fields. I haven't hunted woods, but would use the stock coil if heavy cover. I set the gain as high as I can and still have a stable signal. I set the disc at 2 and leave the switch in the center position. I like to hear the all metal sound. Bullets give a more mellow signal than iron. Takes a lot of practice to get that "feeling" about an all metal signal. On deep relics, sometimes it's the all metal signal that tells me to dig. I've dug over 8000 bullets and have a pretty good ear for lead.
