Idea: Dirty Coins and COINSTAR

After going the acid, vinegar, olive oil, tumbler route I realized that getting my coins clean is not a very productive pastime.

Now I keep a COINSTAR jar and toss in all my discolored quarters and dimes and nickels and the better pennies (post '82). Coinstar accepts them very easily. This month they even have a promotion...cash in $30 and they mail you a $10 certificate. OH..and to avoid the 8.9% counting fee I just get their Amazon certificate ..NO FEE! They also have other certificates but Amazon is my favorite.

Only one certificate per household :( (but fortunately have extended family all over the place )

here do not like the fee

i would not ever take the time to clean and wrap those damn pennies ever again

dump into the hopper and go......................gone forever - receipt pops out................go get the cash

but like i said, some on here would prefer to wrap and clean

whatever floats your boat and makes u happy - life will go on around us all

good luck

I've been using it for years. I could care less about the fee...it's FOUND money and there's no hassle of cleaning, rolling, etc. I do wash it all though...when I get back from an outing I simply wash it in the sink with some warm water, toss it on a paper plate, and when it dries I dump it into a big plastic treasure chest. When it's full it's good for about $150. I just cashed in $150 last month, which was my beach coin haul for the summer. Of course the coins are simply a necessary nuisance to get to the gold and diamond rings, chains, etc. "Icing on the cake"

when in the store. I once found over $2 and a GOLD RING! Some people don't realize it dumps unwanted coins out at the lower right side. That was my biggest score, though. It's usually foreign coins.
