My buddy Randy found this on Sunday out in a field. We've all found a lot of colonial buttons in this field. It's a one piece and appears to be a Naval button of some kind. It is dented from the back like it was hit with something. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe

My guess is a USN button, we find a lot of similar buttons, but some turn out to be USMC buttons.

USMC This is one that is pretty close to it.

If you have Albert's Button book, look on Page 109, picture 3B. Marine Corps with Navy design.
Anyone else want to second the identity?

It looks closer to the one Larry posted. Is that a one piece button Larry? I looked at a lot of them so far. Have yet to see one with the right lines.

That's it Dave. Does the book give it a date?

I don't have a date other than I'm pretty sure it is Civil War or earlier. You might have to find someone with Tice's book to nail it down.

Found out it's an 1820's Marine Corps uniform button. Thanks for all the help. Joe

nice find. I like buttons.
