ID Hopping Problem

My Explorer sometimes ID's targets all over the screen and won't give me a consistent signal. Although the ground balance seems to be OK, I have to drop the sensitivity down to 20 or below in order to get the ID to lock well enough to tell what is under the coil. It doesn't seem to matter if I am in manual or auto sensitivity or if I have fast or deep on or off. I'm in central Florida and the soil has very little mineralization. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

What I do,
If its a shallow target try lifting the coil a little off the ground
Deep targets try diffrent angles with the coil slightly tilted and not flat to the ground, this usually helps if their is one target under trash
Some coins on edge and flattened screwcaps oddly shaped or with bends at diffrnt angles will cause the pointer to bounce around a lot
Set your response to fast and Swing the coil sloowwww and see if there are multiple targets
Get a smaller coil

I have had falsing problems at various sites that I have detected like you have described. It sounds like you are on the right track, turning down the sense and going into auto. Try some differnt areas and see if you have the same problem. I'm guessing that the area you have been detecting is more mineralized than you think or it could be overhead or underground wires, an old coal dumping ground or even an alien landing pad. I don't know for sure why but some areas seem to be real stable and 50 feet away I get falsing and chatter no matter what I do. Good luck!
