I found this at an early 1800's house site a couple of years ago and would like to know if it's military insignia or what. It's heavy duty metal and measures 1" wide X 2" tall. Thanks,
Neal

Not sure if its military or not. Judging by the size of the attachment pegs and the thickness it may be part of a house address number. I don't see any rust so assuming its not steel or metal, so if its brass or another non-corrosive metal it may have come off of something leather based on the attachment pegs if its military, such as some time of horse/cavalry leather, but that's just a guess on my part. Maybe someone else can give you a more definite answer. What state did you find this in?

Nice find, looks old and in good condition.

I suspect it is made of brass and is an address number. Probably tacked into the front door. Nice old collectable for sure Neal.
