id excel or id edge what's the difference?

shorttx

New member
i am considering buying a new detector . i have been looking at the id edge and the ML exterra. i have never owned a fisher or a ML but i can"t see much difference in the excel and the edge . any advice?

Yes they both share the same -36 to +36 number system so they look similar & I know will be heavily compared...

But here's some important differences of the top of my head....
1) Edge is deeper/more powerful
2) Edge has notch discrimination
3) Edge has new preset modes for certain sites
Jewlery- can null high coin
old coin- for sites w. trash + indian heads/old nickles
New coin- for modern coinshooting
4) Edge can be hipmounted/ has longer cord for water wading
5) Volume control like C$ has
6) smoother audio sound
7) Edge looks to have more coil choices coming (10.5" in spec sheet)

....I'm sure there's a couple more I'm forgetting....

thanks bill i do think that the id edge will be my next MD . i called a dealer that told me it would not be available until DEC.15 but i will wait, thanks again

How's the "see-thru" in iron compared to the Excel & C$? Are the numbers on good stuff more stable/accurate around iron? I know some this is a little subjective because what some consider bad iron is different than others, but Inquiring minds NEED to know!

I find it very similar to the C$/Excel in iron....perhaps a good thing as I know of no better units in thick iron. Maybe there are slight differences as I know some folks believe the Excel could be an improvement in iron over the C$. More time will tell I guess...but it's definately working for me already....

You know Fisher could have released an Edge months ago just to be first. But instead they are making sure. I now have a production model & I'm very excited.....

So if you have a PRODUCTION model, doesn't that imply that it's ready for the rest of us? I know, maybe yet another round of field tests. I'd feel like December is coming quickly TOO if I already had a production model in hand. (lol, I'm just jealous)

The "production model" is just the ones he built on his new bathroom counter top, while the protos were built on his coffee table.

Disclaimer: This is a joke. An lame inside joke at that. Fisher metal detectors are not built on coffee tables in Rhode Island. I too have an Edge pre-ordered and even pre-paid for so I be a waitin' too. :) Got a sneaky feeling it's gonna be more than worth the wait.

Actually, I had it pictured as a kitchen table top work site, but I get the idea (g). Mine's not only pre ordered, but I already paid the extra for **overnight shipping**!(funny, but true!) Maybe when Fisher announces a new model like this they should also offer valium salt-licks with the pre-orders. Yep, it does sound like a really interesting critter they are puttin out.
Thanks,

Edge with a couple updates to complete the field test, that's all. In fact, I have the same proto I had before...they don't even have the stickers yet.
I know it's no fun to wait, but I really feel this one is gonna be worth the wait, & it would not be good to rush out a unit & then have to recall it or something....

if you do what I did. I just bought another newly released detector as well as one that's been out for a short while but that I'd never tried. This gives me a month to wring them out and see just what they can do before I'll need to concentrate on the Edge. :D

cause that's exactly a few of the things I'll be looking for. If I had to guess at this point I think I already know the answer. ;)

Sorry, but I'm simply going by what's being posted by others who have used it since nobody around here has taken me up on comparing them yet. Seems some flaws are coming out from all the fluff. I'm reading how slow the recovery is in iron or that you must switch to all metal. I'll stick to the Fisher DSP "real time" speed. I'm out to unmask things in iron trash. Now there are directions on the other forum about how to cut down the middle rod with a hack saw??
Oh well, should be "fun" to compare the 2 I guess....
Maybe their new magazine ad will have 1 big long arrow going deeper into the ground now?

Ya got the XT50 and MII 2.2 but no T2?

Saturday when I was out in the cornfield for the last time (firearms season opens up tomorrow) I had a doe and 2 fawns just over a hundred yards away from me casually eating away. A bit later a nice little buck came sauntering thru and didn't pay a bit of attention to me either. I was downwind but in clear vision and silhoutted against the sky. When they have their minds on fattening up for winter (and other things) its amazing how little fear they show.
