ID-Excel on -36

I have been running this disc setting alot lately, thanks to Otto for reminding us of it. I was not taking advantage of it. For relics I was using all metal or keeping the disc on 0 & dig'n positives like on my C$. But like the C$, all metal becomes 1 tone, & you gutta keep your eye's on the meter at all times in hopes of a + sign appearing amid all the (-) confusion. Works fine, but lots a "scoreboard watchin" as I call it:) Running -36 disc on the Excel allows you to be able to utilize all 4 tones. Seems like an excellent trash setting. While doing a quick test at that old, trashy mill site I found a pile of square nails. They give that low, fart sound I began to pull some out, & I found a colonial button down in there only because a higher pitch really caught my attention. This setting is much like having an "all metal" mode w. 4 tones (though true all metal may be deeper?) The only thing to get usted to is hearing every single fart sound in an iron loaded site can be annoying. Had to turn my headset down. That's the main reason folks like to run disc 0 for a much quieter ride. But I guess what I'm getting at is this really worked well for pluckin' stuff outta heavy iron trash...HH, Bill
PS. I figured a post was due about detecting, not about pretty girls

That is how I hunt when I use the Excel, it is sort of simliar to the way I hunt with the Explorer. I like seeing or hearing all the iron hits to know when I am in a good possible areas.
I have found the all metal mode to be good to use when exploring a big field or open woodlands when you are initially looking for a hot spot, but once the readings start coming, I switch the all metal mode off and rely on the Tone ID first and then eyeball the meter............

I am with you too...from way back in-94when i started
out with my first cz6 my wife and i began to search
in a wide open manner and slowing down on sweep and
trudging speed.
The trouble with iron can be overcome by turning down
the sound on your headset.
Personally i prefer phones with a little higher pitch
than normal.I can not use phones with a deep bass
function as they seem to blend iron and foil sounds
together
