ID Excel and bottle caps

Eddie Currents

New member
My Excel in disc mode often sounds off on shallow bottle caps no matter how high I set my disc.
Is this what's meant by "Fishers love iron"?

(It's a great detector, BTW)

Especially the newer Fisher's.....that's a stereotype of the older Fisher's. Though bottle caps are rusty, that does not mean they are iron. They are more a mix of like a steel alloy I believe & plus being round just looks + conducts too much like a coin to a Target ID unit. This is not just with the Excel, but all brands. Sorta like me dealing with shallow horseshoes & plow parts....shallow stuff can fool the ID too alot. BUt I don't get discouraged. I just get the junk outta the ground & keep swingin' :detecting: Often getting trash outta the ground can "unmask" a coin which is another positive way to look at it.....HH< Bill

With the C$, I dig alot of old rusty bottle caps - each time out, I'm gaining more knowledge on the sound and id meter concerning old rusty bottle caps - but I still dig em, just in case, like Bill stated, it might be masking a goodie. HH - Hawkeye Jim.
