ID Edge runs nicely on one 9V battery

jabbo

New member
Detector works normally with either of the two. Seems to me the 2nd one is there to double the time between battery changes. Good to know only one spare is needed.

Hmm interesting, got me curious so I tried it with my 1236x2 and it also worked with one battery placed on either side. Thanks for the heads up jabbo. Steve.

Had the Edge up for sale this week. Glad it didn't sell, gonna keep it. Took it to the woods a few days ago and found these 5 coins and some wheaties. Went back today and found just one coin, 1802 large cent. Thought it was gonna be another silver quarter, was surprised to see a large cent there. I like the 4 tones along with the 36 ID numbers, lets me ignore all those shotgun shells and other brass bullet shells. The Indian heads have no pitting but some dirt is still stuck to them.

Harold, yes when volume is set at 4 or less. When set above 4, deep targets will sound like they are shallow. I like setting at 4 to alert me of a deeper target. The Edge needs head phones because the speaker volume is not as loud as it really should be. But whth phones it is loud enough.

Thanks for the reply, I'm a big modulated audio guy. I have got so use to hunting that way I don't think I could do with out it. Also does it have separate numbers for dime and quarters ?

Harold, The manual says dimes and copper pennies are 28 - 30, quarters are 30 - 34, Zinc pennies are 20 - 22. (IH pennies are not in the manual but I get 19 - 21).
I was wrong about the volume set-up. Volume goes to #9 setting, I was using #4. I just did an air test, going to a higher volume number increases the siganal volume for shallow coins, deeper coins still sound deep even at setting #9. I might have been thinking of the volume settings on my CZ. I confirmed the audio modulation on the Edge with an air test a few minutes ago. I had the Edge for a year now, but rarely ever used it, being a Tesoro lover. Seems the Edge is equal to my Cortes in many ways, including depth. I will hang up the Cortes for a while and see if I like the Edge better. So far I like that it has 4 tones, the Cortes has 9 tones but I have to press the SUM switch to get the tones and thats not good when there is a lot of targets close to each other, so I look at the Cortes meter a lot.

Thank's for the reply. I was also looking at a cortes a while back,But didn't like the fact it didn't have tone I.D. and I guess it doesn't have modulated audio ? I have heard some say it does and some say it doesn't ?

Harold, tone ID is a must in my opinion. I also have the Tesoro Golden uMax. Has 4 tones, no meter. With the Edge, you hear only one tone at a time. The tones on the Golden will jump from one tone to another or blend together if a nail is close to a coin. So you hear one tone then another without any break. However, a single piece of metal can also give two tones blended together. The tones on the Golden seem to speak to you better.

From top left: 1802, 1824, 1787 NJ colonial, worn thin no detail, worn thin no detail, 1787 NJ colonial. Three were found with the Golden, three with the Edge. Gives me a rush when I find them but I'd rather dig up 1800's silver, I know they're out there.

hey there jabbo what kind of depth do you get with that edge? the freq is real good for coins i know that, i never really payed much attention to this machine

AMC, the frequency is 6.25khz. Not a depth monster. In air tests, getting a solid 4 way signal that I would dig: Merc dime at 7", silver quarter at 8", large penny at 9". Exactly the same for the 10 khz Cortes. No two way or iffy signals. I bought the Edge because users were saying how great it is for separation of targets. It's better than the Cortes but not as good as the Golden from what I see in air tests. Even with the Golden, separation is not easy. Only two of the coins seen in these 2 photos were past 5" deep when found. I know I"m missing the deepest coins but at my age 7" is deep enough to dig.
