ID Edge Questions

I take it that the ID Edge has a backlit LCD display for night hunting ?

I sounds like the ID Excel is a good iron hunter, but no small coil for it, so I assume the ID Edge with the small coil (be it Fishers or Sunrays) ends up being the better iron trash hunter ?

Is the Edge a repackaged Coinstrike ?

Anyone have luck using the factory preset search modes for "old coins" and "gold jewelery" ?

Thanks,
Brian

No it's not a backlit LCD display unfortunately. I think the C$ is the only one of that type that had that feature....
The Edge is more like a "hotter" Excel than a repackaged C$ because the number system is tighter on those 2. There was alot of complaints that the C$ didn't utilize all 100 numbers, & you saw a 51 alot for hot rocks & stuff. The Excel & Edge go -30 something to +30 something. No more annoying 51 blips at least in our soil:) They hunt in iron about the same. The Edge is deeper overall, but your are correct that the Edge does a nice job having a small coil available....

I think the Edge is the perfect machine for an old homestead I hunted with my Sovereign once before, but there's a fair amount of iron in areas. I found a 1903-S Barber four inches deep, three feet from the front door with the Sov, and a ton of ~100yr old spent shells of various types. I've since located original old photos of the place, and have a much better idea of the layout, so a new hunt is on. Who knows a cache could be lurking there someplace. It's a big area to hunt once you branch out from the cabin, but It's a tough hike, so I'm hoping there's more then just one Barber hiding out there (virgin site?). I could pack in the Edge with the 8" and 5" coils and set the "old coins" search mode, and I bet it would do well. I have another place that's a bed of nails I bet it would do OK at with the small coil from everything I've been reading...watch those + numbers that sneak in, hopefully they sound off loudly.

OC mode or "old Coin" was something I suggested, as the original "coins" mode number range the factory came up with wasn't taking into consideration the coins we are really after like Indian heads & old nickels...

Thanks Bill. I read that you were involved with the Edge design, that's a good thing in my book. I wonder how deep it goes with that 10.5" elliptical concentric coil ? Does it lock onto round targets as well as the C$ does ?
