ID Edge or CZ-3D????

Hi all,
I've been swinging an Explorer for the past 4 years. I like it and will not give it up but it's heavy and you have to work it slooooow.

I have a 1236-X2 but need to send it off to get fixed but I'm looking for a 2nd detector to use for more "all-around" detecting. I like the CZ-3D just because I've used Cz-5's and CZ-6a's in the past and did well with them.

I read Bill's field test of the Edge and that one sounds like a winner too. (I also read Bill's story in W&ET about his finds around Charleston when he was a kid....nice shorts, buddy! Oh wait I dressed like that too) I'm just curious how deep it can punch and are there accessory coils available (mainly a 5" and a 10"). Also does Sunray plan on making a probe for it. I've used the X-1 probe on my Explorer since I've owned it and think they're great.

Anyway I'm mainly interested in people's experience with the Edge and what kind of recovery depth they've been hitting. thanks in advance for any info.

I used CZ's long before the Coinstrike, Excel, and Edge came out. I have a 70 Pro, 3-D, Coinstrike, Edge, and Excel. I'd go with the Edge as per your choice options, not that there's anything wrong with the CZ's (shades of Sinefeld there). You might not get the deep lock ons that you're used to with the CZ's but I feel you will get deeper non-ferrous ID info to work with. JMO.

That was back in the day....you know before he became the world famous rapper (wrappper in Texas), "Rapmaster B". Izod Lacoste baby! Word to your mutha!

Hey flatlander in your opinion does the 3D have any "advantage" over the 70 on the deeper stuff that drops to iron? When I waded with the 70 I had to dig all the faint iron hits in Lake Charlevoix or I would have missed some silver coins and a gold band. These were only 4-5 scoopers with the Sunspot which would have been easy targets for the 1270. Too be honest this was light sand over clay that is hard to GB to. I am considering trying a Dankowski special someday, but... well if its no better than the 70 or 5 I can easily put that thought out of my mind.

Most people wouldn't dare send that photo to a magazine (or scan it in for Tony to keep on his computer) ;) But, I always thought that kinda proved that I have been doing this since I was a boy.....
I wish someone had taken a picture of me & my Gandpa detecting together when I was like 8.....
There's a picture of me after a successful Civil War hunt in VA., but no way am I ever scanning that one....I was in high school & 80's metal was the rage.....my hair was pretty bad :super: <--(a bit like this sorta)

Yes, Fisher just announced a 5" coil for the Edge is due out & the 10.5" is already out. So, the Edge will be like a CZ & have 5,8,10.5" which is a great mix. Yes, I believe Sunray will do a probe for it too.....But if you already had a CZ it will be a tough call, The Edge will be lighter & shouldn't be much of a big learning curve. Ya can't go wrong with either choice really...
HH,
Bill
PS. I want THIS CZ-3d right here! :buds:

I never generated the data to be able to say for sure but my gut says that the 3-D does properly stay non ferrous deeper but only to a small degree. As for comparing to the 1270, I just think it's one of the disadvantages of multi-frequency. Single/multi..... both have their strengths and weaknesses. Now that it looks like we're getting the 5" coil for the Edge, my next wish is for a waterproof 1270 to replace the 1280. Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh

I started detecting in 1982 at 16 1/2 swinging a White's 1/DB. I try not too look at old pics of myself if I can help it either.

I think that I've become adept enough using the Explorer that any learning curve on other machines should be a snap.

Anyway, I'm leaning more towards the edge than the CZ. One thing that impresses me about CZ's I've used in the past......if it says it's a nickel then 98% of the time it IS a nickel.

At least that's my guess since "flatlander" and "troll" are pretty much interchangeable.

I just got back from a year in Iraq and had to learn almost as much Yooper as I did Arabic just in order to get through my day.

HH,
SgtSki

No Yooper here. I'm a troll and flatlanders are from down south. There is a difference.. at least in my neck o' the woods. :)

For those unfamiliar with the lingo.. a Yooper is from the UP (upper peninsula) and if you live in the lower peninsula.. ie: "under the bridge" you are a troll.

Thanks for the service over there SgtSki and be sure to get that 1236 sent in and fixed up. I know you had some successful water hunting with that little buggar. Mine pulled 26 rings out for me the first year I waded with it.
Tom

if Fisher did make the 1270 into a fresh water machine. It would take over the indstry in that niche for sure.

Thanks for the info on the 3D. I know that it is hard to state something as fact sometimes, but going with your gut feeling after many hours of use tells alot.

HH Tom

that one! I'm a Seinfield fanatic! :)
Hated to see it end!
Are you saying, that YOU choose the Edge over your other detectors, or that SgtSki should choose it, based on his needs?
Thanks! You can email me if you want? I just got a 2nd CoinStrike and i'm trying to get the most out of it I can.
I had the Edge and liked all the CZ's better than it [except the cz3D- I didn't care for that personally???

I'll say it here. I try to be diplomatic but I don't try to be truthful. The latter is just the way I am and sometimes it overrides the diplomacy. :) The Edge isn't my favorite. In the Fisher line, I like the C$ first with the Edge being a close second. I was just telling Sarge which of the two I prefer between the 3-D and the Edge. Not that there's anything wrong with the 3-D! In fact when it first came out, I used it a lot in a couple areas where the coins were DEEP and the trash was slim. I'd hammered these spots mercilessly low and slow with the Explorer for a couple years with great results, especially since it had been hammered by hundreds of detectorists for decades. Going over the same area with the 3-D after it had been Explorerized netted me an amount of additional goodies that shocked me. The 3-D does what it was designed to do from my experience. I still like the Edge better between the two and I can only imagine that will strengthen once the 5" coil is available.

a smokin' hot babe in the UP?
Answer: "So I bet you're from downstate, right?"

Brad,

Do you know how to tell when you have been camping up in the UP too long?

Answer: The first day you pickup up a UP girl and sit her on a stump in camp, when she starts looking good its time to go.

When I said I don't try to be truthful, I really meant I don't have to try because I just am truthful, maybe to the point that sometime I should keep my truth to myself. ;) . Wouldn't want that original verbage to be misconstrued as meaning I'm a liar and proud of it. :D
