ID Edge on the way, any tips??

Got a new C$ a couple months ago. How is the Edge in comparison for searching old farm sites and such for coins. I have read the owners manual and all of the field tests and sounds encouraging. Does anyone use the OC factory preset? Any tips would be appreciated. Sound like the setup is somewhat similar to the C$..
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

The main thing to pay attention to is getting a good ground balance. If its not handling iron well in those fields, re-ground balance and try again. Thats the biggest difference between the Edge and the CS IMO. Around iron I let the tracking set the GB on the CS and then locked it in(usually). Sometimes with the Edge ya gotta play with the GB a bit to get the best performance, especially in low iron mineral ground where it seems to set a too negative balance on occasion.

Dropping the sensitivity to GB can make a big difference at some sites on depth and iron handling. Sometimes it seems to want a little more than a 2 second count before raising the coil as well. Play around with it some.

Bill,

You can check the GB in all metal auto-tune with max sensitivity by bobbing. Let me know how it goes too as I am wondering about my 8" coil... so far the 5.75 balances nice first time every time.

after you ground bal. try turning up the sen. some to add a little more depth,it wont always work but in some ground around here I've hit pennys at 7 to 9 inchs and qtrs at over a ft. good luck and keep us posted

This park is an old park thus just full of trash and bottle caps. I have been over the park with several different detectors and my most recent was the C$. I would bet I found over 200 bottle caps in about 5 outings with the C$. I did find a few old coins with it, 1897 O dime, 6 IH's, 1959 Washington Quarter, & numerous Mem Pennies and clad coins. I guess the discouraging part was all of the Bottle caps I had to dig to get the coins. Well today I took the new ID Edge to the trash park and only found 1 IH, 1905, 5 mem pennies and a clad dime, but didn't dig 1 single bottle cap, not even 1. I am happy and think I'm going to enjoy using the Edge. Today I ran with the small coil and ran disc at 18. Set the GB with sensitivity at 2 and after setting cranked the sensitivity to 9 and ran sweet. It appears it may have earned a spot in my arsenal of keeper detectors. The jury is still out on the C$ until I get to use it this Fall in some old plowed field sites.

I would guarantee 15 to 20 with the coinstrike in a 3 hr hunt.
