ID Edge help needed

Hi gang,

Hunted the old home site on the farm and found this copper spoon or scoop. Came up a solid 21 on the ID Edge.

My question is that when hunting with ear phones I get lots of +20, +25, +36 readings with audio signals that are faint and tend to be out on the edges of each swing. But they are not repeatable and completely disappear when I try to focus in on them. What are these? I call them ghosts.

Now when I found a clad penny or that spoon in the picture, those were much louder and repeatable no matter which way I swung the coil. I am wondering if these ghost sounds/readings are coins buried deeper?

I still get lots of bouncy +36/-36 readings but others on the forum have indicated that on the ID edge this is almost always rusty iron.

I posted the picture of the spoon on the whatzit forum to try and find out the age of the item. But I am excited that this may be a good indicator of a good site to hunt carefully.

Thanks for any ideas.

The higher the sensitivity you have set will cause erratic readings that sound deep but wont repeat.when you get a hit like that and try to relocate it and its not there check the spot with all metal and usually its just a false hit occasionally it might be a nail falsing when you see the 36 flash.

when the edge locks on a target its usually a good target maybe trash but still a target.remember the target when deep will sound soft but have a more pronounced sound than a false hit and the numbers will usually be close on repeated swings. I hunt here around the metro Atlanta area west side so I know the Ground conditions you are encountering.

I hunted a house last week with the edge I had the sens. [8]. 10 was a little to noisy for me. and every solid repeatable hit was something .I had hunted this place off and on and thought I had everything but the edge snuck a few deepies out of there with the 8 inch coil. Got 4 Minnie balls .54 caliber that my modified cibola had left they were deep 13-14 inches but they were staying around 18-21 on the I.d. so the deep items will lock. also got some odds and end brass parts I had missed in the thick iron. even the t-2 had missed.

Also I run my disc on -36 so I can hear all targets that will help alot when you get those +/- 36 bounces it will be easier for you to forget about them in the audio. If you get a 36 hit that's deep and don't go negative dig her up to check her out. here's a +36 on the edge from a few years back. Its a Morgan Dollar locked 36 and never moved no negative bounce.

On the spoon they will be in all house sites so they are hard to date i would say that it looks about 1900 to me maybe 1890 but thats just a guess. the older houses around here have pewter spoons in them for the most part or Iron spoons brass ones usually are turn of the century and on.

Good Luck
