Ice storm in Oklahoma 2007

Ice storm in Oklahoma 2007,
This December Oklahoma got hit hard by a ice storm, lots of people, more than 700,000 with out elect.
Lots of tree limbs and trees gave it up.
So we put the limbs out to the curb in big piles.
The city of Noble asked for bids to haul off the limbs.
One bid for our small town was 175,000.00...
We got a low bid of one dollar to do the clean up.
These nice people are here now doing the clean up.
These people came from out of State to do the clean up.
I just wanted everyone to know..
When asked why a dollar, the company said they just wanted to help.
So a great big thanks goes out to the great State of Louisiana.

There were A LOT of people in the Tulsa area without power. Even more in the Oklahoma City area. I personally saw electric utility trucks from Nebraska, Texas, and I believe Georgia. I helped to feed a bunch of Linemen from either North or South Carolina.

I have nothing but praise for the crew from Texas that got power restored at my place. It took them about an hour or two to replace a downed line at the end of the street, and reconnect the circuit breaker on the pole in front of my house, that energized the circuit.

General Ray,
There is a lot and I mean a lot of tree limbs and trees all over town, if you could be here to see, you would think a tornado went through.
I live in a small town, the next town north, Norman, they said over a Million to clean up all the tree limbs and trees. Norman is running out of places to pile them.

OU has only won like 2 bowl games and lost like 6 bowl games since Stoops has been head coach..Every time OU gets some good coach's, some other school hires them for a head coach. OU is one of the most up and down team that I have ever seen. I won a 6 pack of Dr. Pepper by betting that WV would win. Its only a game, right ????

To fix the Elect lines. And there were days that we never saw a truck. OEC Elect. was down here also.
I saw out of State trucks here working on the trees in the main elect lines. Some house's had the elect. meter ripped off the house's.
Its still a big mess....
Hope I never see another ice Storm like that one again.

Why do you think so many trees broke ??
Do you think the tree sap was still up and it froze as well as the ice ??

It's possible. I've been helping clear storm debris at work. I've noticed that on the trees where limbs have been cut, there's sap running down the bark.

Lots of folks had their electric meters ripped off their homes here as well. PSO says it's up to the customer to hire an electrician to reinstall the box the meter hooks in to. The City of Tulsa will pay for a meter and a weatherhead, as well as the electrician, to get these installed so PSO can hook those folks back up to power. One of the guys I work with has been waiting for days for one of the city's electricians to come by and repair/replace what's needed to get him hooked back up. Luckily he has a gas heater, and a fireplace, so at least he's warm.

I was lucky. No wires down, meter never got ripped off the house, etc. Just the circuit breaker on the pole popped.
