NO discrimination will only accept good targets! What we can do is use sounds, discrimination setting, and our skill and experience with a detector to reject the majority of the trash. When all is said and done we will miss some good targets if any discrimination is used.

The Explorer has all metal detecting with tones or 1024 notches to select items to be accepted and rejected. When we consider the number of options with the combination of notches in combinations we can select then the numbers are tremendous.

A good example is not all gold rings are rejected just because we reject pulltabs. We can accept a nickle and still reject many trash items that hit in that notch window but by adjusting the width of the notch window with more or less digital combinations or more or less black and clear areas of the screen. However, if the trash item and nickle read the same then there is no way for the detector to know the difference.

This is where the skill and experience of the user really comes into play. As an example a nickle will sound different than many pieces of trash with the same readings when swept from various directions. The size of a target can be measured and a nickle distinguished from a lot of trash. So we end up with a minimum amount of trash in comparison to all the trash that can be detected but is rejected. We play the odds and load them in our favor as much as we can. In my opinion the EX2 allows us to do that better than any detector I have used to date.

If that is a problem then we can go to all metal and use tones, the skills and expereinced alread mentioned, or we can dig everything. In addition we can use a combination of all metal and discrimination so there is not much more that can be done with today's technology. I think you will find the Explorer does this in a very effective way.

Which display do you think is better to use smart or digital?
I found digital is very confused for me?

I use digital but worked with digital electronics so it makes sense to me and the cross-hairs are not very general as far as a visual look is concerned. As an example the cross-hairs in an area sure give a nice general idea of the target but the digital numbers tells you the ratio of ferrous to conductive/size. On very deep iffy targets the cross-hairs don't indicated that there if there are co-located targets. What I mean is on an ultra deep target the digital reading will indicate numbers such as 02/30, 8/20, 30/30, 0/29 so this in conjunction with a high tone mixed in, warbling sound, I know there is a good chance there is a good target. You really don't see that with the cross-hairs. I do much better in separating target and in particular ultra deep ones using digital.

I am not sure we can say one is better than the other in an absolute sense. The best one is the one that is best for the individual. I think the Smart screen with cross-hairs is used more than digital from what I read. All you do is just look at the general area of the screen and dig based on sound.

Cody were can I get all those numbers for basic targets?
(for good coins, gold rings.. silver
