I would like to know the concensus about the 12" Spider coil or is it the Super 12? I have a 6x10 and am doing a dig in VA. Any thoughts?

Here are SOME of my 2008 finds already....3 Star base 3 ringers. An 1835 Capped dime. Yesterday I got a Spencer round but is missing half of the round. Also got an 1883 IH penny. I do a lot of surface hunting around foundations and trashy areas. Is it worth the money for me to invest in a larger deeper coil? If not should I get the 4x6 DD?

Thanks guys!!

The MXT rocks!!!!!!!

For heavy trash I love my 4X6DD. Granted it takes more time to cover much area and the depth isn't up to the larger coils, but the separation and pinpointing is wonderful. And, of course it is light and easy to swing. Alot of folks like the 5.3 concentric which I have also and is definitely better in the trash than the 9.5, but when the area is really trashy, I find the 4X6 the way to go. The larger coil will cover more ground and give a bit more depth in clean areas, but may drive you nuts in the trash.

....I'll be there as well. My username is Don in Pa on that forum and I'm riding with the medics from the dig.

My suggestion is to go with the 6X10DD for your MXT. My hunting buddies there all use the MXT with the 6X10DD. I also have the 12" Super coil and I heard that is does good in the bad VA soil. But I can tell you for a fact that the 6X10 has been proven in the bad VA ground. I'm certainly no expert on the MXT as I have only had it for a year and a half. But I can tell you that it is a great machine and I'm sure you'll do great with it.

Looks like you are doing pretty good already with it.

Thanks a bunch. I already have the 6x10 DD just wondering about the bigger coil. I am leaning more and more to the smaller 4x6 DD coil, as I do a lot of hunting in high trash areas and foundations!

See you at DIV 9!

EROK,
I'm also going to Dig in VA. I use a MXT with the 6X10 coil mainly, But in large fields I use a 12 1/2" excelerator coil and I love it. I hunted a place in VA with the 6X10 and got just 4 bullets and then went back to the same field with the 12" coil and got 29 bullets. They did not come out with the White's 12" until after I bought the Excelerator, so I don't know how it does. I have the 4X6 ,but don't use it that much. I would get a large coil before a small one, because the 6X10 will separate just as good as the 4X6. Just my opinion. See you in VA. H/H JOE in MD

I have to respectfully disagree. The 6X10 will NOT separate as well as the 4X6. It Will separate considerably better than the 9.5, however. I often hunt two extremely trashy parks in my area and the 4X6 beats anything I have ever used there. Better than the 5.3 as well. Granted you don't cover much ground per sweep and the depth is limited, but for sneaking thru the trash, it is ideal. JMO

I have the Whites DD 1400 and it's a load after 2-3 hours of swinging, I was wondering if I trade it for the 6 x10 or Spider, will I lose much. I'll be in VA as well and dig in some bad MD soil.

Can't help you there as I haven't used either. In theory, the large coil should give a bit more depth, all else being equal with the DD handling difficult ground better. Matter of fact, I've been thinking about picking up one or the other and not sure which would be the better choice. I'd be looking for a bit more depth and coverage more than dealing with bad ground. I feel the 8X10 will take care of my needs in that regard. Hopefully someone that has experience with either or both will jump in here. I can say that I like the 8X10 very much and it is the coil I use the most, but haven't had the opportunity to compare it to anything larger than the 9.5. In fact, most of the places I've been hunting the 9.5 is nearly unusable due to trash whereas the 8x10 handles it moderately well and the 4X6 is truly superb.
