Whites royal gt headphones. When I bought my detector from Kellyco, I told them I did not want their free crap. So they marked down the price a little, not much. Now I have some extra free bucks from Whites to spend. I currently use a lightweight set of Sony headphones. Are the royal gt's worth getting? I already picked up a 5.3 coil, some covers. I now have $200 to spend again, but must be Whites accessories. I was thinking a lesche digger, headphones, an extra battery, sand scoop, weather cover plus extra rod/hard wear. I would really like imput on the headphones and only am considering because of the free bucks, so put yourself in my place, if possible pros cons with the royal gt's thanks, want to decide very soon Gregg

I don't think you would be happy with anything less than a quality set of phones like SunRays, any of the Detector Pros or of such quality. The Royal GT don't fit into that catagory.

You Did not mention which detector you bought, either way you will probably want a quality set of headphones with seperate volume controls. I have bought several Whites detectors all came with a set of Royal GT headphones, They are very uncomfortable to wear, I think your money could be spent better. I purchased Grey Ghost several years ago and love them, I also know now they have many other brands that are excellent as well and these guys could probably list some of the newer ones out there. I know you have $200.00 in free stuff coming, I just think you would be happier dishing out the money and buying a quality set of headphones and you would enjoy the detector much more. I would buy a lower rod for your 5.3" coil.

Thanks, no one seems to like the Royal GTs??? I have a DFX, had it for over a month now, awesome machine. If no one likes the GT's maybe I will do what Larry mentioned before, get something extra and sell it! I remember having a pair of Whites headphones back in the 80's, all I remember is that they squeezed my ears and made my head hurt!!! SOUNDS LIKE THAT HAS NOT CHANGED! ...Thanks Gregg

If it were my money... hummm. Forget the lesche digger, i found one at TAGET that looks a good deal like it and is only $10. Your post makes it sound like your close to the beach, might consider a larger DD coil. I have the whites head phones, id be surprised if im missing too much good stuff. Im old and slow and look at the signagraph a LOT.

ooooops almost forgot, DO get yourself a cover ive found it a must have if your even considering the beach.

ooooops almost forgot, DO get yourself a cover ive found it a must have if your even considering the beach. I love having the cover and two rechargeable batteries. purchases ive never regretted.

I wouldn't bother with them. AFAIK none of the detectors made today have anywhere near the dynamic range of even the cheapest set of headphones. What would be useful in a headphone is a volume limiter or, even better, an external volume limiter. The only other thing to consider is the sensitivity of the headphones to faint sounds and that can often be more of a function of good sound damping than sensitivity. ..Willy. PS.. use that $200 to get another coil.

Hey Gregor, I would buy a popular coil/cover, like the Eclipse 4x6"
DD Coil or the Eclipse 6x10" DD coil. Then contact Ronny Dugger at Dixie Metal Detectors (owner of Timberwolves Headphones or Brian at Southern Treasures for a pair of Killer Bee Headphones, and see if they will do a even up trade on your BRAND NEW coil/cover/lower rod
for their top of line TIMBERWOLVES or Brian's top of the line KILLER BEES. They are both WHITES Dealers and they might do the deal. Or, you always have the option of selling that item on this forum, and purchasing them outright. Best of luck, hh, Les.

Wisconsin Pete, I have also read about the shorting problem when doing research more than one time, thanks Gregg.

Agree that is direction I am looking at two rechargables and cover, with a sand scoop and an extra lower rod, I already got the small coil>5.3 perfect for the extremely trashy areas I hunt in, great advice thank you Gregg.

You have the Royal GT's? Or the basic Whites headphones? I just remember before(20 years ago) how the biggest relief after hunting was>>>taking off the Whites headphone, sore ears/head:stars:

Got the 5.3 and after using it three times now I think it is great. You are 100% right I see a major difference with the small coil for the junk infested parks I hunt in! Thanks Gregg

Well I picked up the 5.3 so looking at an extra rechargeable among other things, guess I will cross off the headphones, unbelievable that even after all these years the Whites headphones from what I have heard are still very uncomfortable, definitely time for a change! Gregg

I am sure you are right Larry, you have not steered me wrong on anything yet! Just that I actually really like the lightweight sony's I am using. I forget they are on my head, only thing cord could be a little longer and worried they will break sooner or later, thought the Royal GT's might be a nice backup, but I guess not! Gregg
