what this piece fit on and what it represents. It is light pressed copper, with one clip still existing, and I expect one clip missiing. On the ruffled sleeve cuff, there is a small loop sticking out which a very fine chain could have fit through. It is 2 inches wide and my best guess is that the hand is holding a hitch of some kind. Any takers?

Possible, but I can't see it. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

One loop is quite a bit bigger than the other, and the leg has no bend on it, and appears to have a small hole near the end, I can't see glasses but appreciate the input.

These are the type of glasses some of the guys below are talkng about.

And if you turn the pic over, it looks a little more like the glasses mentioned...

but there is no hook for the ear,,,, I'm not sure. I did have a suggestion of a key to wind a pocket watch, what do you think Rhoderman?

That would be one big azz key for a pocket watch!
I think the side that was broke off was a hinge. The cap was likely on a cylinder, probably lined with felt to protect the glasses. I have no idea what the little loop is for though. Maybe a chain to hang it around the neck?
I did a search for "antique eyeglass case" and found the link attached. It says it's 2.3" in diameter. Coincidence?
I think it's a really cool find!
