I went dirt fishing today

Hello everyone,
I went dirt fishing today and I think I caught my limit,I found 61 coins and a ring, that is a record for me. I haven't cleaned the ring, however it has a beautiful stone in it. I am just proud that I am learning to weed out the junk and find the good stuff. However I am still digging an lot of tabs. Someone on the in WESTERN & EASTERN said "dig everything", and I,for the most part am following his advise,if not I would have lost the ring.
I have a question for some of you guys that understand electronics. Does a stud finder set on METAL STUDS detect metal the same way a pinpointer does? I have managed to break two pinpointers in the last two months. The two I had seem to be very delicate and I seem to manage to drop them.I know stud finders are tough because when I was working we had one for years with no problems.

Thanks for the information, now to find which one to buy. By the way, I tried to find www.firstontop.com, however I could not find a web page that showed how you made one. The pic look like you know what you are doing.
Thanks again.
John D.

Hey John D.:

Take a look at Bill's Detector Sales www.billsdetectorsales.com

He offers the Little Wizard II, which I like raking through loose dirt; good for about 1/2". For deeper probing he offers several others, too.

Good Guy and Free Shipping!!

Stud finders require some serious modification to probe for coins. It's a different world in the ground. Have you checked into the Sunray probes?

Hello clondike clad,
I found the above mentioned page, now all I have to do is figure which broken pinpointer I want to modify.
