Another night hunt completed on a house built in 1949 that is currently bank owned. The ground was very soft and easy to work with, and this site had plenty of coins at the 6-8" depth range, unfortunately most of them were Memorials! I spent 4 hours total here, using 12 khz with the usual high notch settings - this place was loaded with screwcaps and bottlecaps, which I dug plenty of each type. I set the third notch at 78 this time, which gave most of the screwcaps a broken audio tone. Wheats came in from 81 to 87 but most of the time they indicated 85-86.
The brass razor locked in a "84" in 12 khz and was about 9" deep. In the same area of the backyard I started getting high-toned hits without VDI while in Reactivity of 3 in 12 khz. Switching to 4 khz made the audio decrease in pitch which gives a great "coin" indication. Dug one clad dime tonight at 8" which was kind of a letdown - but it only fueled determination - I planned on leaving this place with just one silver coin tonight - it's not too much to ask, is it?
I almost gave up and was on my way towards the car, still swinging as I was leaving the backyard. Zip! Got a strong "88" and dug into some rocky ground and finally got a Memorial cent for my trouble...walked 10 feet further and got almost the same signal, but better at "90". This one sounded a little deeper, and dug down again into some rocks. This was probably the hardest target to recover all night having to get through the gravel driveway. Flipped out a few rocks and then I heard it hit the side of the hole - silver coins have a lovely ring when dropped or struck!!!
Have two more hunts for 2014 with the best one coming up on Sunday. Two houses have been demolished which were built around 1900 - just hope the weather holds and the rain can stay away until the afternoon...
