where I took the pictures the other day. This is week here was warm, upper 60's but no freezing nights. Wack, it all stopped.....Next week they are calling for cold nights, maybe even snow in upper elevations so should fire up again.... He was telling me between all his tree's he will make almost 500 gallons of syrup. This year less than a quarter of that so far.

over CT mostly up north here. He has what looked like a milk truck to me with stainless tank, and a pumper on it. They transfer it to the truck and on to the next. Not sure where he cooks it at but its got to be a big operation. They sell it in small little jugs to the full gallon size. Here is a link to one, check out the prices on gallon jugs... He isn't doing to bad....and a picture of another and the assortment of jugs....

tap the Maple Tree for the sap? Are there any actual commercial Maple Tree Farms for the sole purpose of harvesting the sap? Kelley (Texas) :)

I'm really not sure on the plastic lines as they are up year round a lot...They must block the lower end to keep bugs out and I assume they flush them at the end of the season but I don't know that for sure. I know the buckets are only out for a short time. The cooking stations are all around for the sap but actually planint maples for that sole purpose, I really don't know. Lot of maple in these parts...that are pretty old that line the back roads..... If I catch him out there again I will ask... He likes to talk about it and is people friendly...

give him 1 gallon of pure maple syrup. That sounds like 20,000 gallons to get 500 gallons of pure syrup. That seems like a heck of a lot more then I see him collecting at least around these parts.

Read this link on the total amount Vermont collects in a season.
