I was sent out a pair of Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones to test out by Ralph...

The first thing I noticed was how well made they were. The sound is really good especially on the high silver tones. My first time out with the E-Trac just getting outside of Boston and I hit the 1802 Large Cent. That sound is still in my head. :D

To be honest about it I expect Sun Ray products to be pretty good anyway so I wasn't surprised. What surprised me was that as soon as I got a chance to hunt it was with Ray (MO) with his new E-Trac and he already had a pair of Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones and swore by them. In fact I asked Ray to put down in words his feelings on the headphones. Here's what he said...

"I have used several different top of the line phones and the Sunray Pro Gold give me the best sound and tone quality we all search for when using a tone ID type machine. They are a pleasure to use with the dual volume controls and comfortable design .They also come with a right angle plug that works so well with most machines."

At this point I was wondering what I was doing testing them when a guy like Ray who hunts almost every day is using them and is outspoken about them maybe I should just quote him and give up my personal test. Well.. I have to test these out myself and I can tell myself I'm not skipping work testing them I decided and continued on with my detecting plans. My next time out was with Bryce-IL and as I pulled up to the park to meet him guess what he had on? Yep. The Sun Ray headphones.

I asked him his take and asked him the same thing I asked Ray. Put it down in words. Here's what I got...

"I can honestly say I would be lost without them. They just give me the "sweet" high tone warble I like to hear when hunting parks for deep silver.
When my Minelab SE coil passes over silver...the Sunray Pro Golds sound off with a very high quality treble tone that stops me right in my tracks. My ears have grown accustomed to that special sound I feel they give me.
I've hunted quite a few times with guys...and we always experiment over deep signals to see if we are "hearing" the same thing. I definitely prefer what I'm hearing through the Pro Golds. No way I could... or would hunt without them....and that's the honest truth."

Here's a picture of Bryce with his phones on...

Anyway... There are a lot of headphones out there and I probably should go on for a bit about them but the two most prolific posters on here are already using them and I actually quoted their thoughts. I should just shut up most likely...

Good hunting... Guvner..

Nancy and I use the SunRay headphones plus four of his pinpointers. Not only does Ralph make quality products, service, if needed, after the sale is unsurpassed as well. Thanks Ralph...

Is the cord is long enough that if you have your detector on the ground, you can still stand up without having the tugging of the cord. Yet the cord is not loose and hanging at the expense of that. Also they never seem to get uncomfortable where I need to adjust them like others I have had.

I just guess it is a matter of to each there own.......I can totally disagree to this post.......but who am I......nobody......I had a pair of those and from the minute I put them on my head....I thought they were a kids pair of phones....then I did one hunt with them and was not happy at all....and sold them........see......to each there own. I can only endorse the Grey Ghost brand for which I own...cause they are the only Phones that give me the bass and treble I want....the SR Golds are just a tweeter IMHO...The GG have the midrange and woofer and tweeter I want and need......man am I ever gonna regret this post.......but it is my own and honest opinion....I feel the need to post.

I was one who got this and that headphones and ended up with a collection - cheaper stuff. Then sometime back I started to turn over all my detectors, replacing them all with a handful of newer tech stuff. Then I started on all the accessories and decided to up the quality on headphones, digging tools, pinpointers etc. When I got the SunRay Pro Gold headphones it was like "I like these". The sound and comfort worked for me, and I like the chord. I ended up getting another and also some other headphones. I still use the SunRay Allot, as well as a few others. No more cheap headphones for me that didn't sound quite right, and some squashed with hard pads that became uncomfortable, and sometimes caused headaches.

Well, so far you are the only one who didn't like those Sun Ray headphones and like you said, to each there own. I just orderd a pair and will see how they work for me. My Timberwolf Lobo's are wearing out so I thought I would give the Sun Ray Gold a shot. Gotta love their X-1 probes so their headphones can't be that bad. You might regret your post, but you posted your opinion. If Bryce likes them then I'm going with Bryce as we all know he kicks butt at finding some nice finds as you well know.:clapping: HH.

Thats funny, I have for no particular reason been using the Sun Ray Pros for as long as I can remember. I picked them up at a competition hunt in Oklahoma from a dealer and guess I have been spoiled every since! I did have a pair go bad once and had to get a new set. I tried a few different kinds in the shop but settled on the sound quality that I was already used to. I know they're a little pricey compared to some others but I won't use anything else!

PS. NIce buzz Bryce!

and that is that they gave a distinctive high tone for silver coins. I already have a top notch pair of headphones but once I heard what these sounded like on my SE=everything I was told became reality. Silver sounded much better than the other expensive headphones I had while I was using the same setup on my detector. I really like them and the treble sounds they give off.

Ralph out did himself on these headphones. They are comfortable, very nice clear and crisp sound. They have good ear cups that shut out external noise. I highly recommend them.
