I was in the worst traffic jam of my life Saturday night.

Been so busy at the office this is the first chance I have had to moan & groan.

I had to make an emergency trip to Las Vegas Saturday. My dad was in the hospital and we went to visit, parents live in LV.

It was a nice 4 hour drive, got to see the early morning sun up over the desert. Got there at 10 AM, we planned on spending about four hours there before heading home (had commitments already Sat evening)

We (wife & daughter & me) had a good visit with my parents and left at 2 PM. It was a great drive back, at least for the first three hours. Then everything came to a screeching halt. The state run road building crews (CAL TRANS) closed Interstate 15 going south. Completely closed it down. All the local people knew about it but none of the travelers.

It was a three hour creep just to get onto the detour which then took us about 25 miles too far to the East just to go around the closure.
A 7.5 hour trip :jump:

I just heard someone in the office say that this weekend they will close both directions in the same area from Friday afternoon till Monday afternoon.

Las Vegas will be dead this weekend. Tens of thousands of people make that drive and it is the only way in or out.

I am wondering if some hotels might use their Mafia connections to impress upon the CAL TRANS idiots the errors of their way. Some in management may just end up with a concrete overcoat overlooking the desert.

15 heading North to Las Vegas, use to take me and the cheve about 3 1/4 hours in the seventy's, I remember once while still in Califorina doing 80 headed for Vegas a CHP pulled along side of me and got on his loud speaker and said slow it down, I nodded at him and backed off the pedal.

Man those where the days, when cops would just motion at you and give you a chance to avoid those tickets, not any more. Dan, I have told you this once and will again, you need to get outa California, way to many people plus your about to get flooded from the south, Mexico is moving to California, good luck bud, you'll need it

but let me tell you about my very first traffic ticket.

I had moved to Montgomery from CA (you know, YOUR state capitol. George was still the Gov.) I pulled up to a red light, came to a complete stop, saw the cop across the street and made a right turn. He pulled me over for running a red light. I told him that was perfectly legal in CA and he said not in this state.

My wife and I have talked about getting out of here but our daughter is still in school (sophomore) then comes college. It is hard to find a good paying job in my line of work. I am too old to change careers and start on the bottom again.
