I believe the date is 1971, the handsome young man shown here is thankfully still with us. He tells us stories of his experiences in Hell.....also known as Vietnam. Sorry the pic is so large...

What do the emblems on the beret mean??
More information!!!... Does he live up your way?? We have quite a few Vietnam vets up here. The fellow who left us a few days ago was a vet too.
All the best

is a PFC, Private First Class or E3. That symbol inverted is E4 or SPC Specialist. Next would come Corporal or SGT. Thanks for posting this Wayne!

It is PFC.The gold & black crest next to it was for the 5th Cavalry; and the patch on my left sleeve is the 1st Cavalry Division, [TRICAP].
[Unfortunately, in a few years PFC would come to mean "proud f---ing civilian."]

you told us. Thanks to him and all our other soldiers, and I know there are many on this forum, I live a free, wonderful life. If it hadn't been for all of you, I might not be sitting here this a.m. You are all heroes in my book, whether a private or a general! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
