I wanted to post a little test I did....

Some of you know and have done this, but I did it again to confirm. I placed a quarter on the ground with a large rusted old nail across the center of it. I tested 4 detectors...GT, SE, Tejon and Vaq. The V had trouble seeing the quarter. Probably would not dig it's signal. The Tejon saw it with desc. turned down below nail. SE would see it at about 6 or 7 inches and the GT got a hard hit at around 8-10 inches. GT had IM on. SE was AM. Sens. was up on all. The detectors would only hit one way, side to side of the nail. Tejon double beeped lengthwise on the nail.

Don't think the GT won't hunt in iron. The GT didn't null on the nail and mask the quarter. This also goes to show you should criss cross the area you are hunting. The target might not hit one way and would the other.

one time i threw a nickel on the ground to set my sovereign disc. as high as i could but still get the nickel. wouldn'tget the nickel even with the disc. all the way down. tried all-metal and got a very large signal. iron horse shoe just below the nickel

Hi Chris,

Did you ever see the Dankowski dvd on coin hunting? He shows you how a piece of iron the size of a staple can mask a deeply buried coin.

Ive dug my share of larger nails with the Sov:minelab: and they sounded good in the ground but up topside they nulled so Im gonna guess you would hit the nail even without the quarter? Any chance you got a meter reading on your GT doing this?

I know the angle you sweep at plays a large part on finding coins that are masked.
