I want to get a widescan coil for the eldorado umax , but i cant decide if i want the 81/2 in. or the 11 in. coil. ill be huntn in hot va. dirt. could

How long have you used that 12x10 coil?
It is not a bad coil, and is very lite weight.
Not sure you'd really gain anything by switching coils....
Good luck

I'd sure try the 10X12 before purchasing something else. The only widescan I've used is the 7" widescan on my Eldorado. Got surprising depth on larger targets when relic hunting - rusty cans, axe heads, etc. but have had good results with the 8X9 and the 10X12 both as well, at least in my soil.

I've go the 8 1/2" DD and 12x10 centcentric which I've used on my Eldorado. I have only used these coils at the beach (which is not very often) as I use the 9x8 or the 5.75" concentrics inland. Both the DD and the 12x10 perform well in the dry sand conditions at the salt water beaches...both giving good depth. On one occasion, using the DD in all metal mode, there was initially a blanking of the threshold..by scraping a little bit of sand away I got a faint signal....I started digging with my scoop, and eventually, at least 15" down found a small 925 silver pendant (about the size of your nickle). It was dead centre in the hole and lying flat...probably the deepest find I've had with the Eldorado. I cant say how it would perform in your soil conditions...but that is my experience with that coil. Thge 12x10 does go deep, but I mainly use it at the beach for the ground it covers. HH
