I want my old Garrett back!

Back in the late 80's I purchased a Garrett metal detector. It was the greatest detector I ever owned. So user friendly, great depth and pinpointing. I've owned two detectors since then and they just didn't match what I had. This is where I'm looking for any help identifying the model. Like I said, it was purchased in the very late 80's. The cost was $399.99. It was, of course, green with a digital face, with printed icons above the read-out, and controls on the face below the screen. The battery pack was removeable and could be worn on the belt. The search coil was the spider webbed type. Wish I can remember more, but that's about it. If I could figure out the model I'd start watching ebay and the like for that model. Any answers would be appreciated....

Yes Dave....They have made a machine or two in their day. I know they have some wonderful technology patented.

Perhaps a 1991 Garrett Ultra GTA 1000 or 500. Except for the coil mentioned.
Great detectors mine is still working.

To John-Edmonton,

GREAT LIST of all of the models. I have printed a copy to keep but, for some reason your list stopped about half-way through the year 2006. Could you re-type from the year 2006 on up?
Thanks,
Drakes

but I also say the coil doesn't sound right. I think those model's were the start of the digital read out for the Garrett detectors. They came out in the early 90's. John put up a great list of detector's that should help you out.

thanks guys for the help......Because I am sure it had a spider web coil, it may very well have been 1991. I was thinking 1989, but I could have been wrong. Sure hope the person who stole it in our home burglary is enjoying it as much as I did, though I'm sure that was the last thing on his mind. Anyway, thanks for the quick and great responses....

I understand, I have used a Master Hunter 7 ADS since I was 10 in (1983) and when I switched to the GTI 2500 I was totally unimpressed. I just recently took it to my test garden and in the field to just confirm my feelings and man, that thing is spot on. Oh well?

Thanks for the imput. For basic detecting condtions, sometimes older detectors fall under the old saying, "If it ain't broke why try fixing it." I now own a Whites XLT Series E detector my wife gave me for a Christmas present two years ago. I owned a Whites Coinmaster years ago....didn't like that one, and don't care that much more for this one. Just my own personal feelings, but I have never liked Whites detectors. Like I said, I want my Garrett back.

The GTAx 500 and 1000 did not have target icons across the top of the screen and did not use spider coils.
The next in line would be the GTI 1500. It had target icons across the top of the screen, target imaging could be hip mounted and if you used your imagination a bit the coil might be called a spider type, it was a 9.5 inch deepseeking scorcher search coil. I can not think of any Garrett detectors prior to this into the 80s that used anything that could be called a spider coil.

Thanks Terry. All imfo is appreciated. Just purchased a rebuilt Garrett ADS Deepseeker with an extra sniper coil. Just two days use and I already like it better than my Whites.....
