Bowie

New member
I dont know anything about cameras, period. I would like a decent digital camera with a decent zoom lens and takes good close ups. The sky isnt the limit but I dont mind spending around, ummm, 200 buck neighborhood, I could spend more but Im gonna buy another detector in the near future so I have to keep my priorities in order,Im sure you understand.
And while in the wanting mood, I wanna change my forum name, I dont like the one I have now. Dunno why I choose that one, guess I was thinking about Jim
Bowie when I picked it,glad I wasnt thinking about Michael Jackson or someone like that. Can I do that, change my forum name?
I can think of some other things I want but dont think you guys could help me out there,I aint greedy or nothing with all this sudden wanting mood, I like to help other folks out so dont think im greedy, thanks.

[size=large]Hay John,

Don't know how to change your handle.

I'm stuck with Tabdog. Like it or not.

But you don't have to spend $200 on

a camera like you discribed.

I had a Sony. It cost $200 or so. It's

a real good camera. But it don't got no

Macro settin.

YOU NEED ONE WITH A MACRO SETTING.

I found this Cannon Power Shot A 470

at Wal- Mart. It has a macro settin.

They cost about $110.

7.1 mega pixel. 3.4 X optical zoom.

Movies with sound. What else ya need?

It has what you discribed. It is very

simple to opperate. Good for camera

dummies.

Steve posted a great website to compare cameras. Do not get caught up in looking for the most pixels. Point and shoot camera processors can only use around 4 pixels or so. Anything else is wasted.

Pentax makes one called the Optio WP that is actually waterproof up to 15' deep or so. I bought one to use when fly fishing. One word of caution though and that is to seriously consider using a grea retriever that can clip to the camera and onto your belt. That way if you drop it, it can't get any farther than the retriever will allow it to. I bought one after my first trip to fish with my Pentax. The first time I used the camera, it fell out of my hand and into the water. It took several minutes to find it. The point being what good is it if the camera is waterproof, if its lost?

You can get a nice Olympus for around $100.00 It has a macro setting and are real easy to use. I carry one with me all the time. HH

I bought a S45 Powershot when they got all the features right about 5 years ago. 14,000 pictures later it still takes good pictures.

They where expensive then but now there are a bunch in the $100-200 range. The software is easy to use too.

You might find a discontinued pricier unit on Ebay new in the box for 50% off. I liked mine so much I bought a spare which was new, from a local seller who listed it on Ebay but I picked it up directly from them after phoning first. I would not buy anything but new in the box from Ebay from a camera dealer with a warranty.

Heya guys, thanks much for the help!!!!
Being a beginner I thought it wise to take a baby step so opted for a Canon Powershot 470. Got it yesterday.
Gotta learn how to use it now. First couple photos I took were good until I zoomed in and then they were out of the screen, lol.
Thanks again,
John

If this reply is not to late, I would look for a Nikon with a Micro Lens for close ups..
Also look for a Good Feature like rechargeable batteries..
You can save alot by this feaure only..Good Luck
