I TOOK THE PLUNGE!!

Well Guys, Like the subject says, I Took The Plunge! I got me that little FIRE BALL!! Yeah, I added another Fisher to my arsenal! Now for some much needed advise. I took the little FIRE BALL out yesterday, and did some air tests, and put numerous variety of coins/pulltabs/Pain-In-The ASS-Screwcaps/toycars, and a few other odds/ends on the top of the ground, so I could test it out. It seemed to do a fine job!! But, I'm going to put it to a real test in the next couple of days! First in a park, searching for some clad coins, and then at a old Colonial Farm Site, that I've been eyeballing for almost a year. The old farmhouse was recently torn down, and the land looks like it's being turned over to a building contractor.
I don't want to use factory preset on the farm, so I'm going to try and hunt with Sensitivity Maxed Out, or at least set on 8. What Discrimination do you EXPERTS RECOMMEND? Also, is there a control box cover available yet, so I can PROTECT the Screen, and how well does it work? If not what do you guys RECOMMEND to cover the Display Window, and KEEP MOISTURE Out of the Box. I remember reading back last year about Moisture GETTING INTO BOX, and messing up the Display Window. ANY and ALL REPLYS, KINDLY ACCEPTED!! HH,

I got mine when they first came out, never had a problem, Your'e not gonna get any more moisture or problems with it than you would with garrett, whites, minelab, tesoro, bounty hunter or anything else, i just use a plastic bag -saran wrap, or newspaper bag, and just a little care, like you would with anything else, you can run sens bout anywhere, disc-just experiment with some junk or coins that you don't want, won't take long,I dunno if they have a cover for it yet, mebbe Mr Ladd can tell you. it's a simple , good machine, you'll like it :geek::detecting::fisher::fisher::fisher::fisher::fisher::usmc:

Mine is #02 & I have never had one problem, knock on wood. Like bugar said, like any detector just keep it dry & you'll be fine. I use the plastic bags the newspapers come in. Basically it's digital & like a computer, so don't risk it even on a misty day. Many Fisher's are splashproof, but this one is not, so keep it dry & everythings good.
As far as settings, the FP on the Excel are a good place to start. If you wanna kinda "max it" I wouldn't go higher than 8 on sens. I find, in my ground, that once I go to 9 I get fooled more with iron falses. 8 will get ya deep enough. Then you just decide on the disc mode. If ya wanna hear the low iron tones, run disc to -36 to hear it all. Or put disc on 00 so you will just hear positive signals...These are the 2 ways I run mine. HH, Bill

how does the id-excel i have compare to a cz-5 i was thinking of tradeing up but im not sure. can you tell me any differences between them.i know that the cz-5 has a salt beach mode /wet sand.and only 3 tone id.the id-excel has 4 tone but i mostly hear two at the most anyway midtone and high tone and is also very sesative in on sand beaches here.also i kind of like the vdi meter on the cz-5 and the extra depth i read about.also is the cz-5 just as accuate on the id as the id-excel.im confused i dont want to lose a great detector for a detector that i wont like.thanks paul

Iv'e never used my Excel on the beach, the CZ5 I have, I liked the CZ on the beach, It worked great, one thing i like bout the CZ is the pointer stays on the ID, till you hit another target, i believe the CZ is a much deeper outfit, and can be belt or chest mounted, the Excel can't, Ohh several things, like just a glance at the knob position will tell you your settings, flip the switch your'e in salt, Actually if i had my druthers I'd pick the CZ over the Excel, both are fine, work great, but i think the CZ has the edge even tho it's not digital readout and the CZ is harder to see the readout because it's smaller,Excel is a little lighter or balanced better, both have got their real good points, but for me and MY=MY thinking i give the CZ5 the edge:detecting::fisher::fisher::fisher::fisher::usaflag::usmc:Right now i use my Excel a lot and really like it, maybe it's the weight:shrug: Also use my C$, my 1212X, and brand X too:clap: Right now I like everything I got:D

It was that early, but i did order it fore the dealer had it,fore i'd even seen one, even had it paid for :detecting::fisher::fisher::fisher::usaflag::usmc:

do you know where i could trade or who would trade my id-excel for a cz-5?thank you so much for your help
