I came down to a decision between the Minelab X-Terra 50 and Whites M6. I believe if it had been solely for my use I would have went with the X-Terra because I have used one and liked it alot & feel it has the most potential for versitility. But since this would be something for my wife to use and something I really wouldn't be using that much, I decided the simpler of the two would be best. She mostly goes to the freshwater beaches with me where the ground goes from sand to clay to shoal & ground balance control is EXTREMELY important for that, so I felt the auto tracking would be of better benefit over the manual ground on the X-Terra. Plus extra info on the display would make things easier for her to know when she was on a coin or whatever else instead of just relying on numbering only. Two knobs versus the more versitile controls on the X-Terra....simplicity won out. She occasionally goes relic hunting with me...but the action is really too slow to keep her interested. BUT for when she does go I believe the M6 should be good enough for her that she wont be handicapped when it comes to sensitivity and depth.
Plus I done alot of asking and shopping around. The M6 was on the street cheaper than the X-Terra anywhere I looked. With the dealer coupon I printed off the Whites main page I was able to get the M6 with stock coil, a free Whites carry case, free headphones, and free pinpointer. Hopefully in a few days I'll do a report or two for you guys. I'll be busy with the house the rest of the week but maybe Friday or Saturday I can get out and play.
